That looks a little messy. I hope that, for the sake of this new game, it doesn't dabble too much into the PSP prequels and focuses on the console-based games.

TIME TRAVEL! you heard it here first!... its going to revolve around some wonky time altering mechanic... all still set AFTER 3 but taking place before 1 and alternating.

(ok pretty unlikely, since time travel would fuck everything up with the story... but hey... who knows)

Unlikely Soma... we already had our share of timetravel in GOW2 and slaughtered the sisters of fate.
Like most people im not really excited (yet).

It just feels like we already finished every task there is / killed every boss/ came back from hell 4 or 5 times...
I love GOW as much as anybody else but a prequel sounds boring at the moment.

Yeah well not what I was hoping for, but at least its another awesome PS3 exclusive, and at least its not a sequel... I agree with Tim Nunes, the 'trilogy' was well rounded and doesn't need a fourth game.

A new "Heavenly Sword" game would have been much preferred. Kratos has enough games already. And I don't want to see Kratos on PS4, I want them to make a new title on a new console, Naughty Dog/Insomniac style. I love love love Metal Gear Solid, but I don't want to see it on PS4 either. Or Grand Theft Auto. Resident Evil is okay, if someone out there still knows how to make an actual one anymore - over-the-shoulder aiming was brilliant, but killed the series. /tangents

Well, I'm gonna reserve judgement until I see footage. I know that Santa Monica won't release an inferior title, so even though the prequel aspect is dissapointing, it could be totally badass, and let's not forget that a prequel opens the door of possibility for...

UPDATE: Sony has now updated the official US PlayStation blog to confirm God of War: Ascension's existence.

The game director is Todd Pappy, who was design director on God of War 3 at Sony Santa Monica studio. Sony described Ascension as "the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far", and confirmed it as a prequel. It "takes us right back to where it all began", Sony said. "Discover the origins of Kratos as he takes his first steps on a now legendary quest for freedom."

Awesome. Can't wait!

We'll play as Kratos when he's 10. He likes playing with knives, picks on little kids by telling them they're going to die via gutting and decapitation and when he can't find any kids he rips heads off small animals. Should be awesome. Day one buy.

Anybody interested in how his blades will make an apperance in this? It was my first thought at least. In the original, he made a deal with Ares and in this process, was given the blades (of chaos?)... Only weilding his sword in battle before this. I dont want a crappy sword lol

O hell yeah, bring it on. This time make it a bit harder all the GOW's was bit to easy even on the hard mode. From looking at that video it seems they are going back to when kratos wife and child was still alive and also before he didn't have his blades.

i am excited about this because Kratos does not have the blades yet, which means the gameplay mechanics will not be the same as previous gow games....i also think this game will have multiplayer!
