Sony registers domain for 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale'

Back in November of last year, rumors swirled over Title Fight, which was reportedly an unannounced brawler/fighting game starring characters from various Sony and PlayStation-exclusive franchises, like Heavenly Sword and God of War.

The game was said to be in development at SuperBot Entertainment, and that's about all that ever came of it, since the rumor died off almost as quickly as it had flared into life. Now though, new life has been injected into its whimpering husk with the registration of an extremely longwinded URL: http://www.playstationallstarsbattleroyale.com

If we follow the rumor train's logic tracks, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is Title Fight's actual name, and the game is set to be officially announced on Spike TV this Thursday. The URL does belong to "Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC," according to the its whois information, so that much at least has been verified as totes legit. As for whether this thing is what became of Title Fight, however, we'll have to wait and see. One thing's for sure, though: That URL is way too long.

I wonder what kind of faces we'll see in the game's character roster. Sackboy seems like an interesting fit. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro would have been nice additions as well if Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games didn't sell the rights to other publishers.

Not too excited about this TBH. Also, and because I'm a nitpicker, I wish they would have chosen a better name.

But this may turn out to be cool. I'll keep an eye on it.

I hope Nariko has her ball-chopping special move. I'd also rather it was just called "Playstation Battle Royale", but I guess that might make some think it's a game based on the Kinji Fukasaku film (which would be AWESOME).

Horrible title but hey, I'll give the game a go if the character roster is decent in size and quality... I don't think is very relevant to have parapa the rapper like the early rumours said.

I still don't think Playstation has enough Nintendo quality mascots to warrant this style of game.

I think Sony's line up would be a lot more diverse than Nintendo's. Most of Nintendo's come from the Super Mario and Pokemon world. with 3rd party characters like Sonic and Snake.

Nathan Hale, Nathan Drake, Kratos, Cole, Sly, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sackboy...They make way better brawler characters imho.

Outside of Mario, Link and Samus, most of the SSB characters from Nintendo aren't mainstream. Sony has easily enough for a game like this because it celebrates the lesser known characters just as much as the main ones. It could lead to franchises returning. I want a return of Sir Dan Fortesque.

Mario, Sonic, Zelda and Pokemon are all the characters Nintendo has, or the ones I recognize anyway.

Pikachu is on SSB too I forgot. Well Sonic is from Sega, not Nintendo but my point still stands. Sony can get plenty of third party characters to add the ones they have to create a good roster.

By "nintendo", I meant in their SB games. There's also I think Solid Snake. Sony can manage a much bigger roster with iconic third party characters. In fact there first party characters are quite alot as well

those days are well over. as soon as spyro and crash went multi- we have nothing left....well anyone any good. we have kratos, but i bet this will be more of a family friendly game

I get your point, but I don't think they have to have the timelessness that some of Nintendo's mascots have. Sony still has enough history, legacy, quality, and quantity in its PlayStation All-Star roster for this kind of thing.

The question on my mind is whether or not this kind of game will be executed well enough to have a staying power comparable to SSB. It's cool to have a game like this, but the depth and potential of the fighting mechanics are going to be what give it legs. This is assuming it's striving for something similar to SSB.

This. I think it's going to have a different feel than SSB simply because Sony develops its characters differently from Nintendo. The mechanics that bring it all together are what will make this game.
