Anyone bothered about the constant swearing in Prototype 2?
Do you think it adds anything to the game?

I did not even notice the excessive swearing to be honest. But if I walked outside and seen the shit I see in this game, you bet your ass I would be swearing like a sailor.

I think it's the same with excessive violence in games, sex and stuff... the more they use it, the less it means to me. If it's used once in a while, like a random swear escapes someone's mouth in the heat of a battle... that's awesome.... if it's just swearing a ton... then it's just another word. Less has more impact, more just makes it a word like fart.

If you like sexual innuendo you'll love Bulletstorm. Kind of thought that was quite funny though.

I support swearing... as I swear a lot.
However, I have not yet played the game to pass judgement. I think that if swearing is natural then there is no problem, as yes when massive shit goes down normal people would probably swear a lot.
If they didn't write it into the game properly then it could be annoying.

Could you imagine a game without swears?
"Gosh darnit! You killed my family you stupid idiot!" It just doesn't have that realistic feel to it lol.

Maybe not but it fits the game, character and the scenario the game is in.
I hardly even notice the F word being used in this or any other game TBH. Using the f bomb makes the game feel more true to the character and situation he is in.
Its funny that out of everything in the game, the F word bothers you the most, not the massive amount of bloods, dismemberment or the violence haha( i love it all)#
To me the swearing feels natural in this game.

swearing CAN get old. look at scarface

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

Just for FF

As for P2
He's pissed off about his family and the other guy from the first game. I'd be raging too if I was this monster seeking revenge. As long as it makes sense with the character story/background then I'm cool with it. It's the exact reason why I didn't have a problem with Rico in killzone 2. Natko was worse than rico.

Excessive swearing is a cheap way to attract the younger crowd. It's a great trick for devs to help sell games.
Same thing goes around here. It's easy to gauge a poster here by the amount of profanity they use.

now excessive swearing CAN also be funny, the South park movie used it in excess to be funny, as it had to do with the story

Way too much!!!
I think it is way too much and for me it takes away from the game. Bring back the good old days when you could flip a setting and disable cursing and/or gore.
Also, it is pretty obvious in the game that the violence is pretend play, but the cursing is very real and excessive.

There can never be too much swearing

I think the problem with games with "bad" dialogue like Killzone 2 and Prototype is that they are clearly trying to create believable characters to some extent...and yet the overuse of swearing is out of context with the characters. Even though KZ2 features jarheads, who would swear more often than an average person, the dialogue still went over the hill for most gamers. When gamers feel this way, I don't think it's because they have a problem with strong language; I think it's because they have a problem with ridiculously-written lines in an otherwise serious narrative.
Then you have games like DmC that exaggerate swear usage on purpose. The lines are supposed to have some level of corniness and for gamers that enjoy material that isn't entirely taking itself seriously, they can accept and enjoy that approach.
"Too much swearing" is all about the intent of the game and the player jumping into it. It all has to fall in line.Last edited by Bio; 12-26-2012 at 02:14.

Came out of Prototype 2 with some mixed impressions. While it was in almost every measurable technical way a better game than the first, I don't think I enjoyed it as much as the first. Sure Alex Mercer was pretty much completely lacking a personality in the first game, but it was different, and not just the cliched angry swearing character, I thought Heller was pretty boring to be honest. Worst of all, silly as the story was in the first game, I thought making your previous hero the villain in a way that that ends like Prototype 2 did was pretty lame.
I didn't really care about the swearing, mostly because I tuned it out, Heller never really had anything interesting to say.
