There are a lot of 2 people fighting games but you can't compare all of them with each other,There are a lot of racing games but you can't compare them all with each other,There are a lot of FPS games but you can't compare them all with each other, i can keep going if you want.
SONY just copied SSB. only the characters shapes changed. They could still keep the idea of all SONY characters fighting each other but at least have a different perspective .

Anybody else think this game has a chance of NOT being that successful? Cus I think that may happen cus Sony doesn't have the deep history that Nintendo has with it's characters in Smash.

Most of those 'deep' Nintendo characters dont even have a voice, lol.
There has been 7 God of War games and 7+ for Hot Shots Golf, 9 for Ratchet and Clank 5 for Jak and Daxter. Even Twisted Metal has seen 6 titles.
Sony is equal in brand size as Nintendo if not bigger with more ips.Last edited by mickice; 04-28-2012 at 10:52.

I really don't get all the comments about this ripping of SSB, as if every game out is purely a new and unique genre. Having a 4 player brawler for all your IPs is not exclusive to Nintendo, it just so happens that few companies have a roster of characters to pull it off. Why isn't anyone going on about how MW3, BF3 and every other FPS is a rip off of Doom?

Well, this just looks like too much fun to not buy. And that is, after all, what videogames exist for...TO HAVE FUN.
Shut up and play games

As a competitive Smash bros. player, I have to wait and see more. They are obviously using the Smash Bros. formula, but they have also taken out a bunch of key (albeit subtle) elements. For instance, everyone has the same physics, there seem to be no ledges on the ends of the stages and EVERY stage is huge. This could dumb the game down to ridiculous camping if the game tries to be played competitively in 1v1.
This is ignoring the additions they brought to the Smash formula, though. With lifebars and special meters, I'm curious to see how that will shake things up.
Overall, it looks like it could be something, but I want to see the reactions of those who play a public demo so we have more insight on the fighting mechanics...which is honestly the most important part.
Good luck trying to see anything in those huge levels with a zoomed-out camera.
Ironically, the biggest form of competitive Smash Bros. is in its 1v1 fighting.
So...Snake mains from Smash Bros. Brawl can...main Snake again? LOL
It also has a chance of being successful anyway because Sony has a deep enough history with its core PS franchises series to pull in fans from several directions in a similar way Smash Bros. did.
It's clear that the reasoning behind Nintendo's mash-up makes more sense by comparison, but I don't know if that's going to stop Sony Smash from getting any legs of its own.

It looks cool but I prefer Mortal Kom bat for my brawler game!

Sony characters have as much charisma and presence if not more than Mario or any other Nintendo character. The problem with Nintendo is that they love doing game after game after game with the same character. Link has lots of Zelda games, Mario has lots of different games, Yoshi does too, Kirby, etc, etc, etc. Sony's on the other hand have 2 or maybe 3 games before studios move on to create new, fresh characters. If you ask me, I'd take Cole, Sly or Jak any day before Mario, Luigi or any other Nintendo character (except for Link). Maybe it's just me, but Sony's characters appeal so much more to me than Nintendo's flat ones.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but there aren't a lot of Super Smash Bros. titles out there. How many times was a shooter compared to Doom or some other classic title back in the day before its genre became as varied as it did? The fact that people automatically think about Super Smash Bros. when they look at this game only goes to show that the 4-player arena title genre is still fairly young. And again, if the gameplay didn't play out from a 2D perspective then people would only draw comparisons to Power Stone 2.
But if you watched the GTTV reveal (which is in the OP), you would have seen that SuperBot entertainment added their own interesting little gameplay mechanics, with special moves that are unique to each character, as well as how the level itself can interact with the player. Even the health bar is designed differently but still necessary for this kind of video game. So it's not just the shapes of the characters that have changed.
I just find it sad that the first time, in a long time, another company is going out of their way to try and improve the genre (however big or small) and you guys immediately shoot it down. Not that the Super Smash Bros. formula was ever really deep to begin with. It's just a fun party game.
No point in arguing though. I know you guys will pick it up.Last edited by Blacksite; 04-28-2012 at 17:42.

You'd all be truly surprised to know that there have been many 4 player fighter games and/or mashups since Super Smash bros. Digimon Rumble Arena comes to mind.

Love the gameplay style and can't wait to play it.
Like many other I would really like third party characters as well, my most wanted character being Crash Bandicoot as he was a real icon for the PS1.
Bring on PlayStation 2013!

They should include Poseidon too. He seemed pretty badass, it would be cool to fight using water powers or something. Also Metal Gear Solid characters are a MUST, and of course Uncharted and inFamous character, and Little Big Planet 1/2 characters. I hope Nariko is in there, I would like to see her in another game. The small bit of gameplay I've seen is epic. I really think Sony is gonna pull this off. I don't know if it will sell like SSB, but it's going to be a really fun game.
Hopefully sony will invest in getting some big name 3rd party characters too.

Zeus and others aren't Sony owned properties, so u ain't going to see them.
A sensible person should be able to pretty much guess who else is going to be in it:
Medievil
Ratchet
Clank
Dax
Jak
Gabe Logan
Sack boy
Cole
3rd party?
Snake.
Ezio

I think Cloud has a greater chance of being in the game over someone like Ezio. Final Fantasy VII was a pretty big deal back in the day.
I'm sure the rest of the character roster will be like the following:
Jak & Daxter
Crash Bandicoot (original design)
Spyro (original design)
Ratchet & Clank
Solid Snake and/or Big Boss
Cloud Strife and/or Sephiroth (original design)
Lara Croft
Auron
Gabriel "Gabe" Logan
Wander
Amaterasu
LocoRoco
Nathan Drake
Cole MacGrath
Chimera Hybrid
Sora and/or Riku
Nariko
Dante (original design)
Sir Daniel Fortesque
Pipo Monkey
Toro (preferably as the 'final boss' before unlocking)
Serge of Chrono Cross (wishful thinking)
Kevin Butler (as a pre-order bonus or 'secret character')Last edited by Blacksite; 04-29-2012 at 03:49.

^^ In the GTTV they said that 3rd party has been important to Sony and will be in the game.
