PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is official, Vita release "Maybe..."

Surprise! The game we’ve been telling you about all week is now official.

Revealed just now on GTTV, Sony’s Super Smash Bros. style game will indeed be called the rather long-winded title of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, as we were the first to report. The title is in development at the independent studio SuperBot Entertainment.

The character roster includes “two decades of characters” including Kratos, Radec from Killzone, PaRappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper, Sweet Tooth and a Fat Princess. Radec was shown with a jetpack, and Sweet Tooth has access to a truck. Several players can play as the same character at once. Levels include areas from Buzz!, GOW and Patapon as well as dreamscapes inspired by LBP. The GOW and Patapon levels are actually one and the same, with Hades occasionally turning around and fighting the Patapons in the background.

The Buzz! level has quiz questions you can answer in the middle of the fight for beneficial side effects. All of the levels are dynamic and move in the background, often influencing play. [Updating with more reveals as the show continues]

I don't know how else you could create a fighting game that includes 4 people fighting each other at the same time without drawing comparisons to Super Smash Bros.

There are a lot of 2 people fighting games but you can't compare all of them with each other,There are a lot of racing games but you can't compare them all with each other,There are a lot of FPS games but you can't compare them all with each other, i can keep going if you want.

SONY just copied SSB. only the characters shapes changed. They could still keep the idea of all SONY characters fighting each other but at least have a different perspective .

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but there aren't a lot of Super Smash Bros. titles out there. How many times was a shooter compared to Doom or some other classic title back in the day before its genre became as varied as it did? The fact that people automatically think about Super Smash Bros. when they look at this game only goes to show that the 4-player arena title genre is still fairly young. And again, if the gameplay didn't play out from a 2D perspective then people would only draw comparisons to Power Stone 2.

But if you watched the GTTV reveal (which is in the OP), you would have seen that SuperBot entertainment added their own interesting little gameplay mechanics, with special moves that are unique to each character, as well as how the level itself can interact with the player. Even the health bar is designed differently but still necessary for this kind of video game. So it's not just the shapes of the characters that have changed.

I just find it sad that the first time, in a long time, another company is going out of their way to try and improve the genre (however big or small) and you guys immediately shoot it down. Not that the Super Smash Bros. formula was ever really deep to begin with. It's just a fun party game.

No point in arguing though. I know you guys will pick it up.

Not only does All-Stars look like a really fun party game, the new footage of Sorcery (loved the dude's new costume) looked dropped dead gorgeous as well.

A great episode for PS fans.

alright let's dissect this trailer. So far i've noticed ratchet and clank and hot shots levels.

I really hope they include pixeljunk monsters and heavenly sword. Of course, jak, crash, spyro will hopefully show up. I'm not sure how that all works now...

WOW!! I love it! They have done an outstanding job incorporating not only iconic PlayStation characters, but also settings and mechanics. The Buzz quiz is cool, the transforming LBP level and Hades levels are awesome, going 1st person with the KZ dude is great. This is a definate buy for me, but I might wait for the inevitable GOTY edition with all characters on disc (I keep getting burned by these GOTY editions). I bet Isaac Clark will be on there.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. And I know DLC is the norm for fighting games but I personally feel like this should be one of those games where you get everything right out of the box.
