Evolution Studios might have had a rough time with the launch of Motorstorm Apocalypse, and after ended up working on the smaller digital Motorstorm title RC, but that doesn’t mean that that’s the end of larger scale versions of the brutal off-road racer.
PSLS has discovered job listings that point towards a much more ambitious title than RC, with the blurb saying:
"Building on over 12 years at the forefront of PlayStation development, we’re now embarking on exciting new concepts that will push user experience, creativity, technology and productivity to incredible new heights."
A job listing for a C++ Graphics/Technology Programmer also says that “candidates will also benefit from practical experience of large scale production pipelines”, while a C++ Gameplay/Generalist Programmer listing mentions “high level graphics”. While this points towards a larger project than RC, it doesn’t specify what they are working on. However, another listing, this time for a C++ Applied Physics Programmer suggests a game that sounds a lot like Motorstorm:
"Applied knowledge of a diverse array of physics and math intensive areas such as vehicle dynamics, rigid body physics, soft body physics, constrains, destruction, character ragdolls, character inverse kinematics, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, cloth simulation, etc."
Motorstorm fans will remember that RC didn’t have characters with ragdoll physics, or proper vehicle destruction – these are all features only found in the main Motorstorm titles.
It’s also great news to see the studio hiring permanent positions after Apocalypse was a financial disaster that caused the developer to fear closure. It certainly looks like Sony is still going to support Evolution, even if they closed down the sibling studio BigBig.
A new MotorStorm title would be nice. The last one I enjoyed was Pacific Rift.

Hope so. I'm a big fan of the Motorstorm series.

This is surprising considering the last one did so poorly..also its not a very good IP in general, I still believe it only worked well as a launch title because there was nothing else out at the time.
Trophy-licious!

I personally enjoyed, Apocalypse more then any other racing game. I believe that the lackluster sales was due to the disaster Japan suffered that year.

Apocalypse would have been fine if it stuck to the same mechanics of the first two. Not only was the whole "cinematic" thing a disaster, but the vehicles felt like they were on steel tracks the entire time. I hated that game. And RC is just... bleh.
I really hope they can return to what made the first two great. Pacific Rift is still the best racing game ever made, imo.

Pacific Rift is definitely one of the more fun and challenging racing games that I've played this generation. The visuals looked great and I loved the setting. MotorStorm, to me, has always been about brutal off-road racing.

They cancelled the game's release in Japan, aside from delaying it elsewhere. But I think most people didn't like Apocalypse because the gameplay didn't feel like your traditional MotorStorm title. I don't know what they were thinking with MotorStorm: RC. Yeah, it was cute, but it's not what most people want to see when they hear MotorStorm.

It seems like Motorstorm needs a break, I think they should make this title a launch title for the PS4 and release it around 2-3 years on

I really like Apocalypse, since the level destruction made for some orgasmic moments. Pacific Rift is obviously the definitive game in the series though. I also want the old soundtracks to come back. The first two games had the best licensed soundtracks I've ever heard.

i'd like it if there was a hub, but you could walk around and talk shit to the other drivers or something. then drive off to the next race, something different along those lines would be cool. either way, great series

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

Yeah, one of the cool things about Motorstorm is the festival atmosphere they provide in the menus and what-not, but that's as far as it goes. I always said the tracks needed to be more lively and have festivities going on around you. A hub would also be a great idea to incorporate that aspect into gameplay.
