How close is too close?

I was arguing with someone about teenagers who date distance family without knowing it. You see, people are kin or family to each other without knowing it sometimes. You have 1st cousin, 2nd cousin, 3rd cousin, and so on.

So the guy who arguing said that even if it's your 6th cousin removed, the two don't need to date. That goes for the 10th cousin and so on. I argued saying that at some point you are no longer kin.

So, my question to you guys is, when is it you are no longer kin or family? When can you date a so and so cousin without having children with three eyes? Would you date your cousin or distant family if you knew they were family?

But my mother says that Robert Burns the poet is a distant (dead) relative which me and my dad say is nothing he and his kin are total strangers and so distant it doesnt matter.

In the east, it was not uncommon to be somebodies uncle and grandfather etc. etc. We've come a long way...That being said, if we were reated in anyway i'd prob freak out if its blood. if its by marriage...meh

Personally, I think it's acceptable once you hit the second cousin (once removed) stage. At least for actual procreating. First cousin is a bit much though I don't necessarily think it's wrong either way. No. This doesn't mean I've ever slept with any of my relatives. I just think the societal norm is arbitrary, antiquated and quite frankly, intrusive. As long as it's two consenting adults, relatives who engage in sexual activity should be allowed to do as they please so long as they're willing to accept any and all foreseeable and unforeseeable consequences. The laws restricting this personal liberty to do with our bodies as we please need to be repealed.

I somewhat agree, but inbreeding can lead to severe defects with the children. I don't think it's acceptable to bring a disabled child into the world just because you wanna bang your sister. Just like how it's unacceptable to drink or do drugs while pregnant.

So yeah, it's a free country and you do what you want with whatever relative so long as you're both consenting, but you damn well better make sure you're not procreating, for the sake of that child.

You are partly correct. Inbreeding can not only lead to genetic defects but it can lead to genetic strengths as well. If one party has a genetic mutation that allows them to heal slightly faster than the average person of if they have a mutation which gives them a mental or physical leg up on others, inbreeding will magnify that attribute in the offspring. It goes both way. Now, I would never procreate with any of my biological siblings but since I'm not related to any of my cousins by blood at all, There are a couple where I've only one thing to say. "PLAY BALL"! But seriously? I think the "taboo" of incest is really only taboo because society says so.

Love taboo subjects. Be it a cousin, a sister or any kind of family, I say love happens when it happens. I'd never look wrong at someone who's dating his/her cousin. Maybe brothers/sisters would be awkward yet, but it's because it's a notion we know it's frowned upon by society and we're not used to that.
