Dark Souls sells 1.19 million copies across North America and Europe

One man's pain is another's pleasure. Never has this been more true than in the case of Dark Souls, as the sadistically difficult RPG continues a slow creep toward two million sales. As part of today's Namco Bandai financials, the company revealed sales in the United States and Europe reached 1.19 million copies.

Publishing in Japan was handled by From Software, which revealed last November that the game had shipped 370,000 units in the region.

Having punished console players within an inch of their sanity, Namco Bandai will launch Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on PC August 24.

Demon's Souls - felt even "colder" then Dark Souls, play it offline and you'll feel despair

...also had harder bosses imo.

Both are fantastic. Demons Souls felt like I was being gripped by the hand of death at times. However, I prefer Dark Souls because of the open world gameplay.

Too much respect for this game. I don't do RPG's, but I'm seriously considering buying this game. The way they told the casuals "Fuck you, we're not going to baby you" was music to my ears. Then, THEN they're coming out with a Prepare to die edition? Too fucking dope! lol

Well done NB and Fromsoft. Well deserved. As for which game I prefer? Both are fantastic, but I actually the structured approach that Demon's Souls had. Dark Souls open world take was good, but most open world game tend to be rather samey, although Dark Souls did it right i.e it wasn't load with meaningless fetch quests.

Never even bothered to finish Dark Souls, played through Demon's Souls 4-1/2 times - partially to get the platinum, mostly because it was so addictive and perfect. Demon's Souls is the best game this gen.
