god of war 1&2 are epic games i would definitely recommend getting the hd collection.

Yes, get them all. Best series on PS IMO.

GoW Collection = GoW 1&2
GoW Collection Vol. II = GoW Chains of Olympus and GoW Ghost of Sparta (PSP prequels)

I concur, all of the God of War games are great, even the HD remakes still stand fairly strong.
Man I remember the first time i played god of war and hadn't seen a QTE before and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get past the first Hydra Head. Aw, the good ol-days

The reason why it may seem overwhelming/confusing on the store, Jeff, is that you can buy the Collection Vol. I and Vol. II - they both have 2 games within them (PS2 GoWs and PSP GoWs respectively), OR you can buy the games within those collections individually, so it seems like way too many products lol

God of War: Chains of Olympus

God of War: Ghost of Sparta
God of War 2
God of War 3

Yeah, strange order. Now to clarify each collection

God of War: Collection(God of war 1 and 2)
God of War: Origins Collection(God of war Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta)

God of War Chains of Olympus is short and I felt like it had a weaker story. God of War 1 is heavily puzzled based while God of War Ghost of Sparta and 2 have more action just like the third game.

Buy all the GoW games they're all awesome. You should have played them in order though, those old GoW's don't look nearly as pretty as GoW3, but for their time they were amazing.

In my opinion God of War 2 is by far the best in the series. Much better than God of War 3

God of War 3 is by far the best and most nuanced game in the series. God of War is pretty good, God of War 2 is a bit silly, but most people liked it because it had a lot of giant boss fights that were pretty well done.

Ghost of Sparta is terrible imo (horrible story, nothing makes much sense, and the battles are repetitive with little to no design given to anything).

Chain of Olympus is almost as good as God of War 3.

Play them in the right order.

I bought them online (the collections)... I wish I had bought them on bluray... I like to collect games and I like to hold them in my hands, instead of some digital stuff on a HDD...

but anyway: All GOW games are great.

1.) God Of War - Chains Of Olympus (nice, great music)
2.) God Of War (the first one - great ideas and lots of great mechanics that carried on until GOW3, when you look at it it's amazing what David Jaffe and his team pulled off)
3.) God Of War - Ghost Of Sparta (nice, but the music seems to be entirely produced on a computer)
4.) God Of War 2 (very cool... I love GOW2! beautiful cutscenes and nice music)
5.) God Of War 3 (feel the rage...)


The "God Of War Collection" = GOW and GOW2
The "God Of War Collection Vol. 2" = Chains Of Olympus and Ghost Of Sparta (this collection is also called the "Origins Collection")

You won't enjoy the other God of War games, having played them all, after what I consider to be, by far, the best game in the series: God of War III.

But they are still worth checking out, especially when they're so cheap.

thought id give these a bash though because i liked the 3rd so much.

oh, and they aren't really very cheap at ten quid a go. they better be fucking good.

Pretty much this. I went back to Origins collection recently and I enjoyed them despite having played God of War 3. Just don't expect super epic boss battles like in God of War 3.

It sucks you just bought these because last week both collections were £15.99 each (I bought GoWC Vol. 2 myself on Wednesday before they updated the store and am playing through Chains of Olympus).

I wondered why they were so big too considering the PSP games are 1 - 2GB each, then a I remembered: 3D.

You can put your downloads into the order you want (kind of - but not really like "this is 1, this is 2, this is 3") by pausing the downloads you want to be downloaded later, so that the one you want first downloads first.

But be sure to check if your PS3 shuts of after several hours. I think default is 3 hours. Turn that off when downloading about 40GB of data (4 GOW titles).
