I am excited about the next gen console, because I'm hoping it will be a monster machine capable of running beautiful looking games as shown on the newest engines, also because of whatever specs they may add on the console, and of course the games!

I can wait. It's not as if I don't still have PS3 (or PS2, or PS1) games I haven't finished yet, not to mention the ones I'm still looking forward to.

I'll be jumping in when the games are out. I'm not as excited in the hardware improvement as I once was. The current gen, minus Nintendo, is good enough for me. Improved AI and physics is where it's at now.

On the S-E bashing, they have "problems creating HD towns" now at 720p, I can only imagine what a crap fest their games are going to be like next gen when everything has improved on all fronts. Or how long it will take them to pump out something remotely decent!!!

With these bigger budgets I cant even imagine what the console will cost.. or the games.

PC gaming is where I might be next gen
The industry is taking a turn for the worse. This generation they've promoted a ton of shit such as online passes, DRM's, fist day DLC's, content inside the disk which you have to pay to unlock, annual subscriptions and whatnot. I fear that they will continue this practice and worsen it even more then it already is. I'm also worried about the cost of games since development cost will definitely rise.

Am I excited? Depends on what is in store, as far as I am concerned. To me, this gen still feels generally new despite it being around the general life cycle of a generation of system. I think much more can be done, especially on the PS3. As far as my excitement is concerned, I guess I would be if they announced a well priced machine that is what I personally want Sony to go back to (good but not necessarily world beating hardware, easy to code for so TONS of games like the PS1/2, backwards compatibility would be nice but a trade I would make for earlier points, etc). I just want Sony to stop trying to make the PS brand something it is not or ever should be (a multimedia device that will run your blah blah blah). Make a console that plays the HUGE library of games made for it, CDs and Movie discs. I don't need my Playstation to be the hub of this "home network of media and entertainment" that nobody has anyway. I really think Japan and the US being so different is starting to hurt the PS division as they see a home completely connected and all of that while half of Americans still go without broadband internet access and even more go without 4G signals (let alone hardware). So, if they pump out another $600 machine (which I bought, btw) I will wait a very long time to enter the new generation regardless of titles launched for it. Not worth it. Especially if its made in a way that forced me to play exclusive titles only or suffer a gimped version of a game because its too hard to code for and/or developers are lazy.

Im a Sony guy but Im not a fanboy. If they keep making huge mistakes, I will consider another console. I prefer the dual shock and Sony's general "feel" as a game company and have since the PS1. Love their 1st party approach, etc. I just think they need to get out of the handheld market completely, for starters. Secondly, go back to a console philosophy more in line with the PS1/PS2 and finally I would suggest to stop with gimmick stuff that was never this companies forte. I have the PS Move but only because it came with the Slim I bought (had it and a 320 HDD for the price of a plain 160 HDD). It has literally 3 titles that are even remotely decent for it and its just silly. Nintendo didnt sell so many Wii consoles because it had a wand controller. The Wii sold because it had a wand controller and was CHEAP on top of casual gamers finding many games to be fun. Heck, my Grandma has a Wii! However, Sony wanted to sell PS3's so they made a wand system with almost zero title support and, honestly, horrible movement detection in most titles despite its ability. At least MS took Sony's original idea and made a movement perf but nixed out the wand part. They realized that if the PS2 could handle controller free play, these new systems definitely could. The Move is a joke to the general gaming public and has sold accordingly.

Basically, I love new tech so a level of excitement is there. Also, while I don't want Sony to go the MS route and basically sell a stripped PC as a console (why you think devs like it so much?) I think they need to get away from spending hundreds of millions on chipsets that devs hate to code for. If the PS1 wasnt such a success, the PS2 would have suffered because it was a pain to code for as well. It just had such a public following and no competition. Now that MS has a legit "hardcore gamer" console division and enough money from their other divisions to pump into it until others bleed themselves to death, Sony cannot afford to have another gen like this one. I love the PS3! Not a fanboy but its a great console and the 360 is built like trash, dislike the controller and is basically a high end PC from 2005. Yet, games, word of mouth and price = sales. In this gen, the 360 won the games war (not exclusives but the other multi-plats that make up 80% of all games) due to coding, word of mouth/fanbase is about even as Sony still has some cred left and won the pricing wars because they built shoddy and can take losses on the console that Sony cannot due to the other money I speak of. So, how do you possibly compete? My above strategy. Cut the ever-failing handheld division (at least in America/Europe. Let people import if they want it so bad but few do so that would save a ton of cash), dont worry about killing MS in the hardware department but make it close/equal in power. The N64 was technically stronger than the PS1 just like the PS3 is technically stronger than the 360 but who won those gens? That saves money. Finally, again, go back to the console simplicity of the past. Make a sleek, simple and low power interface for a console that plays games, CDs and Movies. The Network system is fine, IMO. The hacking gave it a bad rep but I think the PSN network and store is just fine. Keep it free (unless you want the AMAZING PS+) and people will always come to you out of not wanting to get bled to death on a monthly basis just to play a game you already own.

This was long. Yes, I am bored. However, my answer required saying some of these things. Excitement no longer comes with assuming my console of choice will be well developed for and represented at a decent price as this was not entirely the case for the PS3. I spent $1000 on PS3's alone (bought a launch 60gig and a slim later) but unlike past gens not that much on games as I learned to stick with 1st party and exclusives pretty early! I only buy exclusives on day 1. If its multi-play, I wait to see how gimped it is and if its a high end title I then get it or pass. If a new title, I wait for the price to drop heavily before buying. Its amazing how the 360 dictated this gen. Its hard to play an Uncharted, MGS4 and GOW and then pop in a multi-play game that is either gimped BECAUSE of the 360's lack of ability or how hard the PS3 is said to code for. Imagine if games like GTA, RDR and the like were Sony exclusives this gen like the previous? Fully using its console instead of a GTA that is the size of a DVD9 disc....lol.
Basically, Sony needs to force the hand this gen or its dead. Cut the crap. They do that and I will be excited. If not, I wait and ride my PS3 until I see the way its going. I wont buy a console that will be dead in a year or two because its company insists on being something it shouldnt be anyway. So, my excitement will depend on the day each company announces its console. Until then, I could care less about the next gen as this one feels SO underwhelming compared to the last two.

If that isn't the standard of games next generation then I'm done with console gaming. That is the absolute minimum I expect.

I don't think 60 frames per second will be the standard for next-gen titles. I'd imagine that most developers would be fine with having their games run at 30 frames per second if it means they can showcase the best visuals.

As for the 1080p resolution, yeah, definitely.

I still have to play a game on consoles where I think the framerate was sub par (well maybe the assassin's creed games because of screen tearing) I fine with 30fps locked. But 1080p is a must.

No I didn't but that game was infamous for being the worst port in history of console gaming

No I'm not really excited right now. No where near the intense excitement I felt for the generation we are currently in. I don't plan on buying a PS4 on launch or even in the first year to be honest. I might just wait for a good price drop. They honestly haven't given much to be excited about, and I'm not really in the mood for wild speculation. This feeling/mood might be because this is the first day of summer school at college today, and I'm just not feeling much excitement for gaming at the moment.

I thought the same with the Dreamcast back in the day until I saw Sonic Adventures. Lol

Yeah, summer tends to drain my spirit. Hopefully the PS4's launch titles and pricing will be appealing enough for me to warrant a purchase.
