But is it the 8th generation of Xbox software? Windows 8 is supposedly the 8th version of Windows kernel. If I were to guess, we have only seen about 5 dashboards since Xbox 1.

If they are looking for consistency of Windows 8, Windows Mobile 8 and Xbox 8, that is fine. But it is NOT the 8th generation of Xbox. Sounds deceptive to me, especially if it ends up being true.

I could possibly make a case for it if they put Windows 8 on the Xbox, but even then that is stretching it. But whatever, as long as it plays great games, call it Xbox Poop for all I care.

Then maybe its a new chip to run windows 8 at a respectable speed. So they can run games near flawlessly on widows live

If they call the next Xbox, Xbox 8, you might as well call the next Playstation, PS12.

It just does not make any sense to call it that. Lets just call it "Xbox Xfinity" and call it a day.

Microsoft wouldn't title their next-gen home console the Xfinity. I mean, apart from it just sounding silly, what would they call their home console for the following generation? Xbox Loop doesn't sound good either.

I could see it being called Xbox Infinity.
Its not worse the Xbox 360.
But no not Xfinity. Thats awefull.

Yes, but what I'm asking is what could they call the Xbox following the Xbox Infinity? The Xbox Infinity 2? It just doesn't sound practical.

Xbox 360 2 doesnt sound ver practical either.
No one says they have to name the one after that 2.
I would think it will be something like quattro.

But as snooper71 says. I can see the next one simply being called Xbox ∞.

People will like just revert to calling it Xbox.
I interchange 360 and Xbox all the time.

I completely missed your post it seems!!! but yeah, the infinity symbol has it all. Do away with the numbered console ala iPad while still retaining the 8 in the form of the infinity symbol (turn the console from horizontal to vertical to change your infinity symbol to

. You also get a logical "step up" to 360 (infinite loop) AND most importantly, you brand your system the same as everything else in your arsenal (windows 8, mobile 8 etc...)
