I think people do want that though. You pay for entertainment through live, you would want all your services in one place on your TV.

MS should focus it even more so users dont have to log into different services.
It would be nice if Live was your master key and when you log in it logs in everything

1- I already get all those services straight on my TV... and PC!!
2- Sure, let MS control all our services accounts and passwords, it's not enough they already want complete control of our credit cards!!!

That article has a strong stench of BIAS!!!

Its definitely biased but it still makes some valid points. Especially the part about retail core exclusives.

It's just a sign of the times. What the core gaming community wants and what MS is planning to deliver to their new target audience are completely different. MS have made it crystal clear what their mission is now, and that is to be the center of the living room, and the target is the whole family. While this in itself is awesome (I love the idea of what MS has accomplished in this regard, awesome entertainment with Kinect aided navigation), for the consumer who is a hobbyist/enthusiast gamer, it's an unfortunate new direction that really doesn't cater for them outside of shared 3rd party offerings and the same exclusives each year.

I totally agree. And thats what I like about Sony. They cater to the hobbyist/enthusiast gamer. The core gamer who games as a hobby. But MS is now focusing on the needs of the casuals and families. Which is fine because that market needs a company to focus on them too. But thats not me. I'm part of the market that Sony is focusing on so thats who I go to for my gaming needs now. (although I am going to play Halo 4).

    What a horribly-written article …

What service on any console can you not get on your 360? I'd like to know, because you can pretty much do anything on PC that you can do on 360. The point is that when you do use last.fm or whatever service, you can do it on your 360 with a big TV. Useless? Maybe to some people, but it's not like they'd be paying less for XBL Gold if that service wasn't around.

You could almost get away with doing that. PC has Alan Wake, some Halo and some Gears, with free online to boot. :P

Decent games, advanced games and graphics have always been on the PC first, with consoles chasing. Especially this late into the life cycle.
The guy could have said he wanted exclusives etc, but he didnt, his argument is weak.

MS arent about to give people exclusives this late in the game, the 8/infinty/loop is around the corner, and by all accounts will probably get quite a few exclusives by defacto at launch.

I dont doubt that the 360 is going to mutate into something other than a games machine.
Much like the 720/8/infinty/loop will probably do later in its life cycle.

I agree. MS aren't going to change their stratergy now. Also, while they will probably have a few exclusives for next gen launch, I also don't think their stratergy is going to change next gen. Where are the exclusives going to come from? Everyone who was 2nd party is going 3rd (Kojima Productions, Epic, Insomniac etc). MS will probably buy some for launch and then carry on like this gen. It works for them, they haven't needed to support their own console to make sales and I dare say they will adopt the same approach next gen. Unless they start buying/opening up some studios. Well, it will be very interesting to see how next gen pans out in any event. Until it happens it's all speculation.

Well, they did actually support the machine very very well right through till 2009.
If you look at the quantity of exclusives from each side over the life cycle, MS was ramped up very quickly and has slowly declined over the years.
    Sony have been the opposite.
We can only hope they do the same thing again, 2007 and 08 were amazing years for Xbox exclusives.

Yeah I agree, MS really was firing on all pistons at the beginning, but in a way that makes their current output harder to understand. Sure Sony struggled at the beginning, but starting off with difficulties and stepping up 2 years later is better than starting off strong and then resting on your laurels imho. I don't understand why MS don't give their customers the same treatment Sony gives theirs when it comes to exclusive titles for their loyal core. I know it wasn't a necessary stratergy for sales, but we gamers can't do fuck all with sales...

Oh well, it doesn't really matter, nothing is going to change this gen. Sony will launch a million games and MS will launch a million apps.

To be honest if I'm paying for the service then I would expect to have those options available, I wouldn't moan because they are there for us to use. What a dick.

Surely the aim of all of this is to have everything on demand, that's why we have iPods and Phones with decent amounts of memory so we can listen to music and watch films when we want. Microsoft is just giving us that option through the console, I consider that a bonus.

+Rep soldier. Seriously I know im the only person who says this. When someone comes at me with well I can do this on PC......I just smh because seriously I am not going to sit at a desk alllll the time and do this stuff. Could you of done this stuff BEFORE the 360? Yes of course..but like Ghost said. The times are changing and Im changing with it. IDK care if PC has 10x more graphics power...I dont have the money to keep up with the PC cards that come out every .38 seconds. But I agree with soldier... I am very excited for MS right now and I am a hardcore gamer. im ready lets do this.

can never understand why people bemoan the fact that MS dont have 6 or more core exclussives a year. i think sales of the console and the sales of games on 360 have allowed MS to understand that they don't need to push 360 core exclusives while there are plenty of multi-plats available, heck... i've just started on Mass Effect 3 (bought when it came out) due to the amount of games available for 360.

Yeah, sales this and sales that and this has allowed MS to save money, relying heavily on 3rd parties to cover the cost of supporting their customers. MS's sorrowful exclusive output over the past 3 years is usually backed up by the fact that they've sold consoles despite it. Truth is many of these consoles have been going to casuals and families and of course these people don't give a toss about exclusives. Still there is a band of loyal gamers who were likely there in the Xbox days, came to the 360 and supported MS and their console etc etc.

I'd wager that a hobbyist gamer, someone who loves games and all the different experiences they offer, would probably appreciate a wider selection of games to choose from over the fact their console manufacturer was able to sell consoles to the casuals while investing very little into the market that brought them to 1st place.

I dunno, that's just me. I like to feel as though I'm valued as a customer, which is what my whole outlook on the console industry is based on. It's nice that MS was able to rely heavily on 3rd party to satiate their core as they pumped out Kinect casual games and upped the media offerings. Sony has been releasing about 10+ core exclusives a year since 2008, despite their financial problems, natural disasters, network hacks.

Everyone's different, this is just my perspective. I love gaming and at the end of the day I want all my gaming brother (and sisters) to be equally as satiated no matter if its Uncharted or Gears, Angry Birds or ARMA 3 they are playing. I just value being valued as a customer, and as much as people say that corporations don't give a fuck about their customers, Sony's 20 game E3 offering tells me differently. Peace!

More services won't bother me at all. The pros of them outweigh the cons by a mile. I like that my console is more than just a game machine. I can sit back and watch movies, chat with friends, and play some of the best games this gen has to offer. Besides, having something that's more than a game machine is not a bad idea in this day and age. For example, look at where cell phone are now.

I know that its a console first and foremost and the games will always be there. I'm looking forward to see where they go from here.

MS have published far more kinect games than retail core games since kinect hit the scene. there is no equal focus. whether that matters given the huge volume of third party titles is a different matter. but MS certainly doesn't have to 'convince' those devs to publish on a console with such a large userbase.

Why don't we all wait til E-3 before we start claiming who is gonna do what. We know that all three will be announcing new games.
