Many people try their hardest to put down Facebook, and state reasons as to why it is a poor excuse of a website and why it may be going 'downhill'. Personally, I think Facebook is a very good invention, and without it, the internet would mean nothing.
"Why?" is the question that may be floating in your head right now, right? Well sure, there are a heck loads of people out there who are addicted to Facebook, but even they say it is still crap. They are just addicted to it for an odd reason.
I find Facebook very useful because it helps you connect with the people who mean the most to you in your life. It is an easy contact mechanism. Facebook is the most used social networking site out there, alongside Twitter, Bebo and MySpace. But none of those sites are as useful as Facebook.
You can share photos, comment, like status'/photos, post status', play games with friends, and there are also some very good apps too what are available to use. Sure, it isn't much, but in my very own opinion it is one of the best websites out there as it helps you communicate with anyone you need to talk to.
Some may agree with me, some may disagree. What are your thoughts on the social networking site 'Facebook'? Do you think it is coming to its last legs, as some people are saying? Or do you think it will carry on being a strong source to the world wide web?

This thread may be so random and inappropriate, but I thought I would just bring this to attention.

Back in '05 I was obsessed with it because I loved the only college features.
Now? I use it for family connections....that is it. Pictures of kids and whatnot. Nothing more.

Facebook is nice for me, as my family is scattered across the globe and it's a nice way for us to communicate, but FB has kinda turned to shit now because it has become a CRM (customer relations management) gold mine. Now you gotta be careful what you like cause one wrong click and your ass gets all hyper targeted for advertising shit you probably don't really want. It's like the quaint little village that was once a nice place to live, but then all the money hungry corporations saw that they could benefit from this nice little community, came and built all their skyscrapers and factories and turned it into a commercial shithole. Still, there are some aspects of the CRM that I like, it's nice to "like" some games your interested in, or certain studios etc.

I don't really have a reason to dislike Facebook apart from the stupid Timeline layout which, while it makes it easier for you to find certain posts, completely changes the way your profile picture and posts look on your profile page.
I think Facebook is nice though if you want to keep in touch with family and friends who don't live nearby. And I've always liked how you could show other people what your Top 5 Likes are for movies, books, music, and video games.Last edited by Blacksite; 05-18-2012 at 05:08.

I think internet is a very good invention too. It's like getting remote information without going anywhere. I think people just don't get it.

its a useful tool. I have contact with all my friends and associates from college. The "group" tool was also a useful tool when doing projects etc. to coordinate. Now all of these features can be fulfiled by other sites, but facebook collects a large number of services in one place making it very useful. Arguably google does it better and has more services in the same place, but google is evil (big brother) etc. so i'd rather keep my personal life separate from google.

Kinda ironic how a social media platform is disliked on a games website

Personally, I love Facebook for it connects me to the world, no matter where I am. Especially useful for longer periods of time abroad.

facebook is good if you have lots of friends (even if you dont know them IRL) and if you're very social. i go on everyday and in fact, i'm on it now.
if you go to clubs, the girls there ask for your facebook now rather than your phone number.
i actually somehow have almost 3,000 subscribers and wake up to plenty of messages, notifications etc. (yes e-brag) and it's nice knowing there's always people to talk to and hang around with.
without facebook, being social would've been 10x as hard and boring IMO
clubbing + thousands of 'friends' + shirtless pics from beaches and parties + facebook = top of social hierarchy

PCs are very much like Air Conditioners.
They both become utterly useless once you start to open up Windows....

i still use this thing called a telephone to actually talk to my family.
i use this thing called a camera to take photos when im abroad.
and i use this thing called a screen to show my family pics when i get back.
E-mailing is useful, Facebook is a chore.
it also makes meeting someone again a far better experience!
none of this lifeless text bullcrap!

Pretty much this. I use it, yeah, but I could certainly live without it. Saying the internet would be nothing without Facebook is the most ridiculous claim I have ever heard. How do you think the internet survived for so long before the dawn of Facebook? Sure we had other social networks such as MySpace and Bebo but we did fine without them too. If anything, the internet was better without all these social interventions. They're taking up peoples lives. You can't go to a party without someone updating their status or making a tweet. It's crazy, and I kinda long for the day it all goes down the pan.

Internet is for porn not for FB.
I don't use FB, i don't even have an account.
Not because i'm a "hater" or because i'm afraid that FB is spying on me... it just has no benefit for me.

I quite like facebook, helps a lot for organising nights out for birthdays and other things, personally I find it easier to keep track on who is going and what time it's all starting. Also a few of my mates share music with each other on there, usually with new songs we find, new bands we get into or even songs we've made ourselves. I sometimes post acoustic riffs I make into soundcloud which then gets posted to FB and my mate makes music on his keyboard & shares that with people. Recently it's been pretty useful as well, one of my distant cousins started researching the family tree and they found me on facebook and we started chatting, hadn't seen them for around 18 years so it was nice to catch up. They live quite far away as well which is why it had been so long.
I don't think the internet would be useless without it, before stuff like myspace, bebo and vampire freaks came about me and my mates actually made our own little forum and posted on there, many of us didn't have phone contracts back then (txts and calls cost a lot) and if we weren't all on msn then we'd use that as a little hub I guess. I think social networking sites are good for procrastinating and sharing funny situations on a large scale, I always see the most random stuff on there. Like this:

A lot of you guys are the minority for sure. Don't know a single person IRL who dislikes Facebook. Couldn't live without it.

Facebook is filled with people trying to look better than their friends. It is either loaded with hundreds of pictures of everyone's kids, or their fancy new toys.
I can certainly live without Facebook. Hell, I managed to live without it for 25 years.

Facebook is pretty useful for me. I can keep up with people close to me much better on facebook.
However, I have ZERO drama on my facebook. ZERO. I only add certain people.
The ONLY thing that I hate about facebook is even if you delete your account, your information will always be on the internet.Awww! Little baby bunny! <3
