Yes, working with what you have is the key because it's always going to be limited.
And the issue of devs not using the power as they were supposed to will always be there no matter what.
But people who know how to use the power, is what technology is all about. For example, if someone wanted to create a game with a breathing and living city, you wouldn't give him 1MB of RAM to work with.
You can't compare technology to art either because one has less limitations than the other.
I think the canvas example would fit movies better. No matter how well the camera technology has advanced, it didn't necessarily make movies better...just flashier, cleaner, more detailed. I still think some of the best work ever has been done by Roman Polanski (<off-topic).

Thats the point thou, if developers creativity doesn't leave the realms of thw current generation & everything is possible then whats the point of pushing for more?
It'll just be the same games with prettier graphics
Don't get me wrong I love my graphics, but he has a point.
We ain't even seen games this gen where creativity outweighs the tech, like we did last gen on PS2.

What do you mean? The PS3 is 6 years in to what Sony said would be a minimum 10 year life cycle. The Vita is a 5-10 year product and will augment the PS3 experience as well as the PS4's. The PS3 is of a standard where they will be able to support it alongside the PS4 much more realistically than they could the PS2 (which still sells today o.O).

I think that argument can be made both ways. Some developers won't change, some will make better games that are only possible on next-gen consoles.
You can't force anyone to do anything right?
I never said he didn't have a point, he does...but like DarkVincent said, he exaggerated to make his point. Basically it sounded a little like PR and a self-pat. That could've been avoided. I like Japanese devs/officials better in that respect, they're more humble. Except that Ninja Gaiden fucker...
It is capable but I don't understand how he can accomplish everything with the PS3 like he implied. That's just silly.

And that's like a 12 year lifecycle so far.
It's almost annoying that PS2 has been going for so long...I abandoned it back in 2006.

Yea in my first post I did sound like I implied that but the reason why I didn't bring it up is because I figured it had already been a subject so many times that it was commonly known.
I mean, you can make amazing games on the SNES too because I love FF4 but if given technology to the right people, we could see amazing stuff.
Also I hated the game because he's too cliche/stereotypical and it pisses me off (black guy was a dumb thug, mexican guy was this cheap club owner) and he mad everyone say, "How far will you go to save the one you love" about 20 times in the entire game...he practically ruined the game for me. I actually liked the villain, I thought that part was really well done.
So while he made a point, it wasn't anything we hadn't heard before and most of it was just about himself so I felt like telling him to stfu

Next gen not needed until 2017, says Heavy Rain dev....
http://uk.gamespot.com/news/next-gen...in-dev-6377776The next generation of consoles won't be needed until 2017, according to Heavy Rain studio Quantic Dream founder David Cage. Speaking to Develop recently, Cage said existing platforms, like the PlayStation 3 (for which Quantic Dream develops exclusively), are powerful enough to remain relevant and capable for another half-decade.
Cage isn't interested in next-generation technology just yet.
"I'm not that interested in technology or the next generation of consoles," he said. "If we could continue with PlayStation 3 for another five years it would be fine with me."
Cage went on to explain that the main limitation is not in hardware (he says he's not yet found something the PS3 can't power), but rather a lack of creativity on the part of developers.

That last part, the part about the lack of creativity from developers, is very true.

http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread...n-t-concern-me already posted. I think he's talking about his studio, not the industry as a whole.

Of course it wouldn't concern him, at this point in time the installed user base is huge compared to a potential new generation of consoles and he isn't pressured to get the most out of it as they already did it. In other words he pretty much says that he is lazy to work his ass off on a new console after he already did it for the current ones.
And games improve with ideas AND TECH! You can't have one without the other.
