When you have a limitation in the hardware then you invest time into coming up with new ways to attract players which yields more creative potential.
Yes, working with what you have is the key because it's always going to be limited.

And the issue of devs not using the power as they were supposed to will always be there no matter what.

But people who know how to use the power, is what technology is all about. For example, if someone wanted to create a game with a breathing and living city, you wouldn't give him 1MB of RAM to work with.

You can't compare technology to art either because one has less limitations than the other.

I think the canvas example would fit movies better. No matter how well the camera technology has advanced, it didn't necessarily make movies better...just flashier, cleaner, more detailed. I still think some of the best work ever has been done by Roman Polanski (<off-topic).

Yes, technology is going faster than ideas/imagination but that's because the consumer gets tired of the same old stuff.

While there is virtually limitless imagination, there is limited hardware for that imagination to fully flourish.

While some people make the same old games, the games have come pretty far that technology makes possible.

I'm sure he'll be fine with the PS3 for another 5 years...that's probably because he doesn't want to really push the console to its limits from all aspects (maybe just graphics) but that doesn't mean that others would want to stay as well.

That comment was self-patting at best. It wasn't realistic.

I think I get what your saying there. I agree with you. But I along with others just love how he said that the PS3 is a very capable machine that can still do great things.

BTW what ever happen to the 10 year life cycle of the PS3?

What do you mean? The PS3 is 6 years in to what Sony said would be a minimum 10 year life cycle. The Vita is a 5-10 year product and will augment the PS3 experience as well as the PS4's. The PS3 is of a standard where they will be able to support it alongside the PS4 much more realistically than they could the PS2 (which still sells today o.O).

I think that argument can be made both ways. Some developers won't change, some will make better games that are only possible on next-gen consoles.

You can't force anyone to do anything right?

I never said he didn't have a point, he does...but like DarkVincent said, he exaggerated to make his point. Basically it sounded a little like PR and a self-pat. That could've been avoided. I like Japanese devs/officials better in that respect, they're more humble. Except that Ninja Gaiden $#@!er...

It is capable but I don't understand how he can accomplish everything with the PS3 like he implied. That's just silly.

10 year lifecycle doesn't mean that Sony wont release the PS4 until 10 years are up. It just means that Sony will support the PS3 for 10 years. Just like how Sony continued to support the PS2 after the PS3 launched.

And that's like a 12 year lifecycle so far.

It's almost annoying that PS2 has been going for so long...I abandoned it back in 2006.

Arguable. May not have said he didn't but you sure made it sound like he had little to no credibility.

Yea in my first post I did sound like I implied that but the reason why I didn't bring it up is because I figured it had already been a subject so many times that it was commonly known.

I mean, you can make amazing games on the SNES too because I love FF4 but if given technology to the right people, we could see amazing stuff.

Also I hated the game because he's too cliche/stereotypical and it pisses me off (black guy was a dumb thug, mexican guy was this cheap club owner) and he mad everyone say, "How far will you go to save the one you love" about 20 times in the entire game...he practically ruined the game for me. I actually liked the villain, I thought that part was really well done.

So while he made a point, it wasn't anything we hadn't heard before and most of it was just about himself so I felt like telling him to stfu

That doesn't mean its 10 years till next console. It means they will support it for 10 years with firmware updates and new software. Concurrent with the ps4

Next gen not needed until 2017, says Heavy Rain dev....

The next generation of consoles won't be needed until 2017, according to Heavy Rain studio Quantic Dream founder David Cage. Speaking to Develop recently, Cage said existing platforms, like the PlayStation 3 (for which Quantic Dream develops exclusively), are powerful enough to remain relevant and capable for another half-decade.

Cage isn't interested in next-generation technology just yet.

"I'm not that interested in technology or the next generation of consoles," he said. "If we could continue with PlayStation 3 for another five years it would be fine with me."
Cage went on to explain that the main limitation is not in hardware (he says he's not yet found something the PS3 can't power), but rather a lack of creativity on the part of developers.

That last part, the part about the lack of creativity from developers, is very true.

Of course it wouldn't concern him, at this point in time the installed user base is huge compared to a potential new generation of consoles and he isn't pressured to get the most out of it as they already did it. In other words he pretty much says that he is lazy to work his ass off on a new console after he already did it for the current ones.

And games improve with ideas AND TECH! You can't have one without the other.

Did you actually read what you wrote before you posted it? Are you actually castigating Cage for being imaginative instead of technical?
