When you buy a new videogame do you ever stop to read the game manual?

I sometimes read them especially if its an rpg game i like looking at the character bios and story thus far stuff like that just to get psyched up for it when i play it.

No, they used to be colorful, now the drab black, white and grey is as interesting as reading toilet paper.

I'll usually read it when the game is installing or patching.

If there's been effort put in to it yeah, like the MGS HD collection manual - that's totally awesome. But nah not when they're just a few pages lol

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King video game manual - 45 pages, nice balance of text and full-color pictures, overall gorgeous template.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception video game manual - 8 pages, mostly text, one black and white low-quality screenshot.

They're both great games but... yeah. o_O

All the time. I've been doing it since N64. And now EA makes digital manuals. $#@! that green eco $#@!, I like the smell of a brand new game and manual. I like reading it and flipping the pages. It's just so authentic.

    Sometimes I will.

    This.

RPGs have thick instruction booklets by the way.

Depends on what the manual looks like. Most of them are grey and boring, but there is also some interesting colorful ones like for Catherine and Tales of Vesperia.

I look either depending on the game, or depending on how much $#@! is in there.

Like, I read the Halo: Reach manual cause it had details on all the new stuff in the game.

I seldom read the game manual unless there's some mechanic I'm having difficulty figuring out on my own. I personally think manuals have been invalidated and made unnecessary by in-game tutorials and the mainstream availability of the Internet on just about every computer and phone available on the market.

Not really.. they are nice to have but if they are black and white and tiny i don't bother, I just skim through it.

Some are colourful and nice and thick, those I read through because as Ghost said... those 8 page black and white manuals may as well be toilet paper lol

Yup I always make it a point to flip through the manuals. Especially when I pick up the game at a store then on my way back I read the manual to get even more hyped for the game lol.

This is how you design a video game manual:

Thanks to Kwes for the signature!

"As long as there are dreamers who have the courage to pursue their dreams, the world will have heroes. And as long as there is a thirst to discover the unknown, there will be new stories to tell...and new adventures to be had."

In the PS2 days when manuals wee long and had a wealth of information, I read em all the time before i played.
This gen, Your lucky to get a manual longer then 10 pages, and even then its just the controls and legal information crap.
