The Dual Shock 3 that comes with the new PS3 slims are better than old ones

I just got myself a 160gb slim and the dual shock 3 that came with it feels so much better than my old dual shock 3. it's not really a black color but a black grayish kinda dark charcoal color. it has a lot of rubber grip on the analog sticks and the sticks themselves feels tighter. it's better for shooters whereas my old dual shock 3 sticks were TOO loose.

the new dual shock 3 that came with the slim model number is CECHZC2UA1
my old dual shock 3 model number is CECHZC2U.

them having different model numbers means sony has made minor improvements to the controller.

so you guys might want to check you model number to see what kind you have. for those that brought new dual shocks 3 check to see if you got the CECHZC2UA1 model.

I don't think that's true. I also have the 320GB DS3 and it doesn't feel any different to me.

Your older controller had loose sticks because the controller was old. It can also mean a defective item...because I had one like that and one of the sticks started to become unresponsive in certain ways and I used it very gently for about a year or two before that.

My DS1 still has perfect sticks...so do the rest of my controllers.

My model number is different still. ZC2E

I don't doubt things are tweaked slightly, the extra rubber is good addition the PS2 controllers had this so it was harder for thumbs to slip off.

I got that model as well. Even my 2 brand new silver controllers that came with my silver PS3 (2 weeks old) have that number

@OP. The only difference I noticed between a DS3 that came with a fat ps3 and one that comes with a slim PS3 is that the latter has more of a matte and grippy feel, which I prefer. I think over time your new DS3 analogs will come to be looser, after they've been 'worn in'

the quality of the dual shock 3s analog buttons surface is really terrible. For me they are basically useless in racing games now your finger will constantly slide. I just tested how well it was compared to my Silver DS2 for my PC which is atleast 3 years older than the DS3 that came with my console and it still has a day 1 grip on it. I even tried looking around for a grip sort of attachment for it and there are some you can buy for no money made by a company named Dragon if im not wrong

Is it a DualShock 3 or was it actually the SIXASIS that just came with the first few batches of PS3s. I *heard* they even felt ikier in the hand. I'm more than likely way off though :/ Either way, improvement to the DS3 aren't a bad thing I suppose.

the new dual shock 3 model number is CECHZC2UA1. there's an A1 at the end. i would say the analog sticks feels like to the ones on the DS2.

sony in the past always quietly released minor improvements with their controllers.

the early dual shock 3 had a squeeky sticks problem. the dual shock 3 i brought in 2009 had loose sticks. the dual shock 3 that came with my slim had a different model number, A1, and is tighter and has more stick rubber grip.

You might be right because my first problem with a Sony controller was the earlier DS3.

Though I never paid attention enough to see the differences...the newer controllers just feel lighter than the old ones (I THINK). Never noticed other changes. I might have one lying around somewhere, I'll take a look at it sometime.

I had problems with first DS3 controllers for PS3 the two I bought the left analogue stick the rubber split and came off. The later ones I've bought haven't had that problem.

Hmm interesting. Mine had a very odd and minor issue. I noticed it while playing MW2...when I'd strafe left and shoot, the right analog would stop responding at times...which cause a great deal of issues for me.

I thought it was the game's fault because the controller felt perfectly fine...then I bought another controller and realized that it was not the game.

But that's also because you don't have any games.

hah, I'm completely the opposite. I like them as old as they can get. Better for accuracy in multiplayer games.

But I will agree that it's a lot more fun to play single player games with new controllers because they're just soo....tight. mmm. I mean, yea they're pretty cool.

Yeah I know what you mean, the reason I like them newer is mainly cause I hate the feeling of a used controller when it starts to lose its grip/finish and it starts to feel like you are holding a controller that has been dipped in grease. Granted that doesn't happen for a while but that's why I get so many.

I bought my slim just recently. I haven't unwrapped the the DS3 that came with it because I'm using the one from my other PS3. Gonna take a look at it then next time I use my PS3.
