News outlets are reporting that an Ottawa coroner has confirmed a package delivered Tuesday to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters in downtown Ottawa contained a human foot.


Authorities say they were called to the Tory offices at Albert Street at 11:20am.


"Upon arrival, officers noted that the ... package had blood stains on it," the Ottawa Police Service said in a release, according to the Globe and Mail.


"The Hazmat Unit and Emergency Operations section were called and upon further inspection of the package it was determined that there was possibly a human foot in the box," the police said.


CBC News is reporting that the package was delivered through Canada Post and police will be tracking its origin.

Meanwhile, the RCMP and Montreal police are also investigating the discovery of a human torso in a pile of garbage in the Côte-des-Neiges borough, west of Décarie Boulevard and checking to see if there is any link to the package found in Ottawa.

That's fucking scary. Either we have a new serial killer in Canada, or an anti-political organization mob/group who will be planning more attacks.

MONTREAL - A low-income apartment complex in Montreal has become the epicentre of an investigation into the shocking case involving severed body parts, including a foot mailed in a package to the headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Police in masks have been combing through an apartment in the mid-rise brick building, zeroing in on one particular unit from which a rotten stench is drifting out, says a building resident.


The neighbour says police are showing people pictures of one man, while also asking questions about the unit's resident and about his possible connections.

Police have confirmed they are zeroing in on a suspect in the macabre case involving three body parts: the foot in a package opened at Conservative headquarters, a hand found at a Canada Post warehouse in Ottawa, and a torso in Montreal.

They all come from the same male victim, Montreal police confirmed Wednesday.


The packages in Ottawa were mailed from Montreal. Police shared other new details about the case Wednesday.

"The suspect and victim knew each other," Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere told reporters.

"It isn't linked to organized crime."


Police are expected to provide further information around 2 p.m.
The Canadian Press spoke to a man in the west-end Montreal neighbourhood where the torso was discovered — locked in a suitcase, in a pile of garbage.


"I saw the suitcase and I was tempted to go get it," said Richard Payette, 60.
He said police wearing masks were milling about one particular apartment in the building on the second floor. He said the door of that particular apartment was left open, and the smell of rotten meat was drifting out into the hallway.

Police showed neighbours a picture of a man — whom Payette said he didn't recognize.


What isn't clear yet is why body parts were mailed to Ottawa, including a foot received at the offices of the Conservative party and a hand found at a Canada Post warehouse.


Montreal police have taken over the investigation, while Ottawa police will continue to provide assistance.
The packages are linked to a grim discovery made behind an apartment building in Montreal, where a janitor found a decomposing male human torso stuffed in a suitcase tossed among garbage.


An autopsy was being conducted on the body part. It wasn't immediately clear where the rest of the body was.

Initially, there were contradictory reports over whether the Montreal and Ottawa cases were linked. While police were combing through garbage in Montreal looking for clues Tuesday, speculation had been rife that there might be a link to the more high-profile body part discovery in Ottawa.

Ok, so we can rule out organized crime/mob. It's just one man. What bothers me is why he would leave the door open to his apartment. Is he purposely making the police believe that he's some amateur to get away faster? The foot being mailed to the Conservative party makes it obvious he hates conservatives, and police say suspect and victim knew each other, so probably means the victim was a Conservative supporter and/or part of that party, working in office. This feels like the movie Se7en.

An international manhunt has been launched for a porn actor wanted in a gruesome body-parts case as police announced Thursday that the suspect is believed to have fled the country.


Montreal police have issued a countrywide arrest warrant for Luka Rocco Magnotta, and he has also been added to Interpol's wanted person's list.


While Magnotta's story was making international news, clues were apparently being uncovered at the Montreal crime scene that led police to drastically expand their search.


"We found some evidence on the scene," said Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere.

"We found, also, a letter that was posted on a website making us believe he might be gone out of the country."

He said the suspect may have fled to a different continent -- but he would not confirm a report that the suspected destination was France.


He did provide some small details on the victim. Police believe it is a man reported missing several days ago, whose family lives overseas. Lafreniere said police were still working out the forensic details and were also having trouble contacting the victim's family.
There could be unique obstacles in tracking down the suspected killer.


Magnotta has used myriad aliases over the years and legally had his name changed from Eric Clinton Kirk Newman on Aug. 12, 2006, while he still lived in Ontario before moving to Quebec. His online posts also suggest he has a longtime fascination with identity change and escape.


He hasn't been seen at his apartment for a while.


One neighbour said he last saw Magnotta nearly a week ago -- last Friday.
That neighbour in a second-floor apartment, near Magnotta's, said he saw the man carrying a box to the post office. The neighbour, Richard Payette, said the box looked like the type that would be used to package hockey skates.

He said he saw Magnotta carry it out of the building around 11 a.m. that day.


Much of the police investigation has focused on that apartment complex, in a working-class Montreal neighbourhood.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that Magnotta killed a man in that apartment, committed numerous acts on the corpse, dismembered the body and mailed the parts to the offices of political parties in Ottawa.


It was behind that apartment building that police found a torso stuffed in a suitcase in a heap of garbage on Tuesday, after it had been lying there for days.


Also Tuesday, a foot was found in a package mailed to the Conservative party headquarters in Ottawa, and a hand was later found in a package at a postal warehouse in the city.


The package with the hand was addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada, and tests show the three body parts come from the same victim.


A police search is also on for other body parts. Montreal police are investigating the possibility that other parts might have been mailed out.
