Think Podolski is best used as a striker or support striker, not winger like he is for the national team.

What a header by big Mario Gomez! I knew he'd score, despite looking clumsy for the majority. I can't believe Portugal didn't go face to face with Germany's attacking, they've got one of the best players ever in their team ffs. The last 20mins when they were chasing the game clearly showed how good they can be going forward. Hopefully they see that
I was too disappointed in Holland. Apart from Sneijder no one realy looked up for it in the 2nd half, it was surprising to watch. I still think they'll make it out of the group though
Can't wait to watch Spain tomorrow.
It really is disgusting seeing these "zhlobih" act like a bunch of degenerate idiots day in and day out. Makes me sick, angry, disappointed, and repulsed. Hopefully this tournament will not suffer any real problems and this can be a catalyst to really do something (sensible, not reactionary) about all this racism.
That said, the Dutch need to learn how to play a team game if they hope to win this thing. I'm not reading too much into the first games but I am glad that the first 2 days have gone rather smoothly. I also liked the refereeing today, unlike Howard Webb the other day.
This had 0-0 written all over it in my eyes.
I wanted the Italians to come out victorious.
Both goals were brilliant, this assists included.
So many great players.
The subs were effective on both ends.
Spain looked a bit better.
On to Croatia (I love that word) vs Ireland.
Torres eh...united should go in for him. We'd make him good again lol.

Torres was an utter failure today. Had two chances, and failed on both. Spain's playing too much like Barca, passing a lot, but failing to shoot and score. Yet, a tie is better than a loss. Good work by the Italians too, played very well today. Played respectably too, other than that idiot Balotelli. Fabregas is a legend!
Everyone is saying Torres was crap and missed two chances,Tell you what those 2 chances was created because there was a striker standing their,It was very stupid to play with absolutely no striker at all.Yes Barcelone did it but they lost competitions + they have Messi. My opinion if Torres started the game Spain could have won easily. I don't support them or Italy by the way.

For all the talk about how bad Torres is, if he converted on one of those chances I bet you would all be saying he had a great game. Buffon owned him on the breakout (but it wasnt as easy as a breakway might seem (esp after torres let the ball kinda get away from him)) and sure he flubbed the lob shot. Yes, he couldve made the pass, but a true striker with real goal instincts thinks shoot first (Di Natale didnt pass across to Cassano for his goal) so I dont completely condemn him for the decision, his execution was just really poor. He really needs to find that finishing swagger again. I think he would've been a lot more effective had he played more than just 15 minutes.
Kinda feel sorry for the irish team and ol' Giovanni Trapatoni.
They tried to stand their ground but i don't think they'll make it past the group stage.
Italy did much better then i thought, best game so far imo.
Germany vs. Portugal was pretty boring tbh.
Both teams seemed to be afraid of losing their first game so they played too defensive.
Looking forward to England - France this evening

The defending mentality won't get England anywhere.

France have had more possession, and also their players are a lot more technically skilled than England's, but when we've gone forward we've been pretty good. It's refreshing to see England playing a more passing game rather than a "smash and grab" approach.
Apart from England actually getting something for the nation, I want them to do well for Roy Hodgson as he's a good bloke and I'd hate for people to hate him just because England flop.
Yes because the England midfield choices are so great going forward that we can't afford to give Chamberlain a chance right? How can you even hate Hodgson for doing that when you don't even support England this tournament? Come on mate... having players like Welbeck/Martin Kelly/Chamberlain is great. I know you are a United fan but you have to look beyond your fan goggles.

Defensive mentality, while boring as $#@!, is much more viable in a tournament than in the course of a season.
