SourceA recent post on the official SOCOM community forum has confirmed that a total of eight SOCOM titles will have their online servers shut down on August 31st. The closure will come four days after the series’ ten-year anniversary and will affect the following games:
PlayStation 2:
PlayStation Portable:
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs
- SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs
- SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs
- SOCOM Combined Assault
SOCOM has long been considered one of the powerhouses in the PlayStation stable, bringing highly competitive online multiplayer to PS2 as early as 2002.
- SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo
- SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2
- SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike
In recent years the series hasn’t faired so well. Despite the success of the Fireteam Bravo series, fans were left pining for a fully-fledged console experience. When Slant Six (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City) launched SOCOM: Confrontation it left much to be desired.
However, even in the hands of its main developer, the franchise struggled last year with SOCOM: Special Forces. Ultimately, it failed to captivate critics, and suffered heavily from the worldwide PSN hack.
Following the launch of its debut PlayStation Vita title, Unit 13, back in March Sony confirmed that developer Zipper Interactive would close just a few weeks after.
