http://360.mmgn.com/News/Unreal-Engine-4-RevealedEpic have finally given gamers their first look at the long-awaited Unreal Engine 4. The tech demo centres around a huge, armoured, flaming skeleton, with Epic fitting everything they possibly could into the two-and-a-half minute long demo. Flames, lava, crumbling structures, mountains, and even snow were featured, and visuals are among the crispest gamers have ever seen.
Not surprisingly, Epic President Mike Capps stated that the company is currently developing a "couple" of next-gen games, and has a PC exclusive also in the works.
Gamers will be further intrigued to know that the demo was apparently only running on a personal computer with a single graphics card - could UE4 possess the potential to produce even better graphics and technical prowess than what we saw in the demo?

I wonder if actual gameplay will look and perform like that. If so, damn!. If next gen game consoles can run the engine just imagine what Naughty Dog will forge with their own engine. I'm also thinking about the future of gaming a few years later during next generation and how vastly superior games will perform.

I'm not really that impressed with it, to be honest. The particle effects and lighting look nice but that's about it. And it's not as exciting as their Unreal Engine 3 "Samaritan" tech demo.

Well, not only was the Samaritan tech demo mostly in the dark, but it was smaller in general scope than this. This tech demo also has fluids and some insane real-time particle effects moving around in the environment. It didn't really have the 'wow' factor that Samaritan did, but I think that ultimately it's more impressive on the technical front.

Fuck me running man, that was awesome! Now, that's an engine I wouldn't mind to see being overused next gen.

I'm more impressed with this then the Samaritan demo. Maybe it's because I noticed a lot more the engine can offer compared to the beefed up, Unreal Engine 3.

I'd love for Sony to have tech in the ps4 that runs all the bells and whistles from this engine. That would only mean Sony's 1st party studios custom engines would run even better.
No thank you. I'll be gaming DRM free on a stronger console for $100 cheaper instead
Sony trolled MS. PS4 fans didn't do it. We just laughed at MS and anyone getting mad. $399 FTW!

It looks nice. But that demo looks like a intro to a pc rts game and that
is a bad thing. Because it is not show its full engine
Thanks to Spyrde/Sylar

To be fair, not only has Square not stated what hardware their tech demo is running on, they're also known to... well... lie about these things. I agree that it looks better, but we should try to evaluate the two a bit better.

Most sources state that it was either running on a 6990 or GTX680.
Either way what difference does it make in the end, since both are intended for next gen, and the luminous engine so far is more impressive for me.

I think there's an issue if you can't compare software to its respective hardware first. Square hasn't release official information concerning the engine and hardware yet, have they?

No they haven't. All they said is that "its running on a high end PC with off the shelf parts"

the Unreal techdemo is aimed more towards developers the Square one is more for gamers.
Lets be real here Epic are going to license the shit out of Unreal 4.Last edited by keefy; 06-12-2012 at 07:58.
