I'm not in a huge hurry for next gen but i know at least Watch Dogs and Star Wars 1313 were shown on a PC. We aren't gonna get those visuals on consoles but the games themselves do look awesome and am looking forward to all 5.

I also agree. Tretton talked about being in that point where the hardware learning curve has been reached and devs can now focus on just making really good games and this is clearly evident when you look at 3rd and 1st party offerings this E3. I would add God of War Ascension to that list. Game looked amazing and I like the more realistic look to it.

For all we know, the games would've been a lot better with the PS4. The graphics is becoming underwhelming, games frequently dip below 30FPS...I'd say it's time to move to a new platform.

Actually nothing proves we don't need PS4 because we really do.Watchdogs on PS3/360 will not look like this at all.

Weren't Watch Dogs and Star Wars running on PC hardware at E3?

The games look good but if we had a PS4 and the same game running on it (coded for it) I'm expect we'd see a difference.

2 of the 5 were PC games. The other 3 looked great but not even close to the PC games shown. Yes, we do need PS4.

Have to agree with the others who said we still need PS4. Not solely for graphics either. I'd like to see us reach a point in which all games run at least 60FPS and have graphics on par with Battlefield 3 on the highest PC settings or slightly better. However, as i said. Graphics aren't what I look at first in games.

More players on screen, larger worlds, all at 60FPS.

I'm not saying the potential for this generation is now gone, but it is deflating and the next-generation systems would only make these games look and play even better. I'm tired of seeing jaggies on my consoles titles. I'm tired of having the framerate slowdown during a normal fight. I'm tired of seeing pop-in and being stuck in static environments.

With greater hardware comes greater gameplay potential; AI, physics, player count, etc.

Indeed. Next gen games should easily blow away the best console games of this gen. The only real negative i can see is the development cost and thepossible increase in price of games for the consumer.

Yes. Watch Dogs and Starwars 1313 were indeed being demoed with PC builts. If every game performed as fantastic as The Last of Us then I would agree about not needing the next generation of consoles but that's too idealistic. We need the next generation announcement next year if not late this year at the earliest.

I believe that development cost can cost less if both the consoles are a lot easier to work with and for the engines to cut development time.

This proves nothing.
All this proves is justification on waiting for games.
Hype building.

Watch Dogs will look nothing like that on consoles, and that's the same for Star Wars 1313.

The Limitations are obvious, that we've hit the mark.
The ONLY thing this proves (well, The Last of Us. for PS3) is that the developers are more comfortable with the systems with age.
Yes it looks good, yes I cant wait till it comes out.
But it looks nothing in comparison to the other games named above.

The greater scheme of things for Next Gen,
ie looks, models, AI numbers, motion, detail, effects, etc.. as well as of course graphics.
But with this Gen,
the Draw distance, Character detailing popup, AI, large scaling maps. All show their limit.
Not in a bad way,
it's just time to move on and let the developers explore greater options and let them spread their wings.

I don't think it proves anything, imo. From my point of view this generations consoles have ran out of steam and nothing that I've seen has impressed me at all. Sure some games look good but nothing has made me think this generation has a lot more to give.

The Watch Dogs gameplay with all the effects further proves my point, for me.

The sooner we get next gen the better in my eyes. Out with the old hardware - in with the new, I say.

If Sony were to announce a ps4, how many would come up and say it isn't needed? Most would get it or plan to get it.

Personally, i can't wait for the next generation to get here.

Untill I start seeing Assassins Creed 4 not possible on PS3, then its not needed
And no one know what watchdog looks like on PS3, except the dev
And they reckon it looks the same, new more efficient engine? Who knows we'll have to wait and see

the people that keep saying it isnt needed are the same ones that will be trying to get it on day 1. for me, it is usually semantics.....some people think that one console may launch sooner than their preferred console. Next gen would be a huge leap when compared to this, more things developers can do, and more things they can impement on games, how that isnt needed or better still welcome is beyond me

This subject has gotten very strange. I'm not saying I'm freaking out for a new system but I'm also not against a new one. What I don't understand is how the mentality towards new systems this gen has changed tremendously from the past. I agree the games are still getting better and better but not leaps and bounds. It is just odd to me when last gen 5 years after the releases of the major systems everyone was dying for a new system. Now most are "meh" than leaning towards the new gen. Even more crazy is how some try to make an argument saying we don't need it like this article. Nothing wrong with the article but honestly I never thought I would see the day when people were satisfied with a system, 5 years after release. Like I said I'm in the middle on this but slightly towards the PS4 so I'm not completely against taking this gen out about 2 more years or so. But if it released tomorrow...I would for sure buy one.

Yeah, but 60 frames per second isn't going to become the norm. Developers can always stick to 30 frames per second as it allows for better visuals.

And we all know next-gen gaming is just around the corner. All of the rumors, as well as a lower amount of games shown at E3 this year, point to game developers gearing up for the release of Sony and Microsoft's next home consoles late next year or early in the following.

Other than that, I find it hard to believe people wouldn't want better graphics. Look at how many people got excited over the Watch Dogs tech demo and that was running on a high-end PC.
