I have an older Dell Dimension E521 desktop. The specs are as follows:
AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 2.0 GHz +3800
Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE GPU
300 watt power supply(stock)
1 GB Ram
Dell motherboard (Don't know any specs)
Ok, I've had this PC since 07 and want to try to see if I can possibly squeeze a few more years of gaming out of this thing. I'm not really planning on playing anything overly demand because I know it won't run it. I.E- Crysis, BF3, I really got the bug to get this thing to somewhat running condition to where I can play some games on low-mid settings. My buddies are PC gamers and when we hang out I always feel left out. So I want to upgrade the ram to 4GB and put a newer low end card in it that I won't have to worry about any power supply problems. If I did this would I be able to play games such as Diablo 3, The Witcher 1, and possible Metro 2033 on lower settings. Will this work if I do these upgrades or will it be all for nothing and I have to buy a new PC instead. I really want a new PC but I just don't think it is an option for the next year. So I think this might just be the band aid until I actually have the money for a new PC. If this upgrade will likely work what are some low end graphics cards between $40-75. If you need more info just ask. I know a decent amount about PCs but not a lot so I need some help here.

I hate breaking this news to people, but you simply don't have any breathing room for any real progress due to the CPU. Your motherboard has PCI Express slot for your GPU, which really limits your options here. I know this is generally the statement given in these sort of threads, but trust me when I say you should just wait and build yourself a better PC later. You can get yourself something pretty fair for only 500-600$ dollars, maybe less if you catch a sale here or there. Frankly, if you upgrade your RAM and GPU now, you really won't see much of an improvement.
