Metal Gear Online was miserable, and no one in their right mind is sad to see it go today. Okay, maybe that's a tad harsh, but it wasn’t at all well-received. I can't even believe it took Konami all this time to finally pull the plug. And this is coming from me, a diehard Metal Gear fan. I was so excited for MGO, and while it did have some ...

It's a fine line when it comes to swearing. Some people do it all the time, some people never do it. Some sites write headlines like this all the time, others don't. Personally, I think the article is a good article and the headline has actually made more people read than usual. In fact it was the most read article yesterday. I wouldn't suggest we now go and swear in every headline, but if it's in the right context then I don't see the harm.

Hey everyone, thanks for reading my article and getting involved! This is exactly the type of community interaction we want to see from some of the smartest, most passionate users on PSU.
I remember when MGS4 came out, I didn't wait until I finished the game to jump into MGO -- I was just that excited. The PS2 had a terrible network compared to the PS3, and I still played MGS3: Subsistence a bunch. However, I was so hurt that Konami didn't handle the online infrastructure well at all. Disconnects, severe lag, and that Konami ID stuff really hindered what would have been a great online expereince for me.
But remember: there's a reason why MGO is offline now. No one was playing it anymore. That includes many of us who say we loved it -- and some of us did, sure -- but the game just wasn't getting any support mainly because of the issues I addressed in the article.
Anyway, I really hope that Konami implements a "sequel" to Metal Gear Online in a future title, like Metal Gear Solid 5 or something. Would be really fun to get in there with you guys

Metal Gear Online was a disappointment to me precisely because it failed to capture the feeling of SP tactics and satisfaction in any real capacity. I joined the action well after beating SP, fairly late in the online game's life cycle. Several matches were all it took to show me how the community operated - run-and-gun, camping, and myriad other playstyles that defeated the entire purpose for me. It wasn't bad because it was different, it was uninteresting because the same crap from other mainstream shooters had flown into a series that I revere and undermined it.
If a large enough community existed, the game would still exist. Player count and activity dropped to below levels that make it financially sensible to keep the game running, so Konami pulled the plug. Simple as that.

That was a bit harsh, but MGO did have it's problems.....and that was the people that played it, anybody going in to MGO from any other online game got slaughtered by the diehards of MGO, which gave it a bitter taste & is the reason people didn't like & never bothered with it, especially when it has a learning curve, afterall no one likes being level 3000 Prestige on COD & getting their asses handed to them, they feel like Hudson from Aliens
go in being all badass & come out

Thats the real problem, the sign in shit didn't bother you once you did it once, patches was annoying, but overall MGO was fun & did a lot right
in fact some stuff I wish was in other games, but it was unique to MGO, so it's a shame to see it go, and it's a shame people never got a chance to like it because of the hundreds of diehards which lurked the game, and I played it now again there was a lot of players still playing, more then Warhawk has so the nobody plays it is bullshit.Last edited by TGO; 06-14-2012 at 16:11.
