The MS Surface tablets will definitely eat into laptop sales and MS partners knows this. they're frowning and not happy about yesterday's showing.
On the other hand, MS probably gave them every opportunity in the world to launch this themselves.
At a time when tablets are being ruled by anything but an MS operaitng system, I think its a smart move for Ms to fire a shot across their partners and say "take us seriously".

No it wouldn't, the experience would suck.

The only difference in experience would be the screen size if some folks prefer a larger screen in laptops.
For me it's all about portability and weight....for instance when I'm traveling on the road with friends and family my iPad is very useful for watching movies and surfing the Internet. Whenever I try to travel with my laptop 15 inch screen it's too clunky gives off a lot of heat. I gaurs tee you will see a lot of people using the MS Surface tablets at conventions rather than laptops.

    uuummmmm...Fried Beer iis a reality.

#1: The hardware isn't capable of running it smoothly.

#2: OSX is not designed (or even optimized) for touch.

This tablet might be the closest that MS ever comes to portable gaming. Could be something great for gamers because of the PC gaming options with steam, xbox, and xbox live integration, plus its appears to be a good alternative to Ipad. It's not bad looking either. I like my Ipad but this tablet is sounding pretty good.
