Samsung smart TV wifi dongle alternatives

Ok so my dad bought a Samsung 5 series smart tv few weeks back and i was surprised to find that it didn't have built in wifi (just got back from uni on Sunday and he asked me to sort the internet bits out), anyway it turns out you have to buy a dongle, but the Samsung proprietary ones are like £40-£50 which is a ****ing joke. I was just wondering if you guys have owned or know about any real alternatives.

I found this, and the reviews seem to be pretty positive but just thought I would get your opinions

I’d get a Wireless Access Point. It’ll have better range and be completely transparent to the connected device (so you could potentially use it for a different device in the future). You could use it as a repeater, hang a switch off of it, just lots of options vs. a USB Wifi type dongle.

    Hehehe, I said dongle...

    Hahaha, that is totally true.

Never rule out a cable run, if you really think about it, there are a ton of creative ways to get a cable from A to B. Our downstairs drop goes through the floor in the upstairs server/network/wiring closet, into the garage, down around and into the downstairs family room through the wall. The cable is totally hidden (it just runs through a channel in the garage, visible, but clean).

A colleague of mine in an area of town with very old homes ran out a window, down the outside and back in through a window! House had plaster walls, etc., so running it internally would’ve been a chore (plus damaged the original materials).

Cable run would be impractical from our perspective. Router is in my room upstairs towards back of the house and the tv is in the living room at the front downstairs. Plus dad isn't that bothered that he would want to put in the work and mum would kill him if there were cables on show. (plus its all plaster walls)

Could you link me to something decent dt ?

This is a good bridge/WAP for the price ($54 USD):

    http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wirel...ds=wifi+bridge

Also integrates a 4-port switch so you can sit this behind your TV and get a Wifi-N connection to your router for up to four locally, wired devices.

cheers dt. sorry for late response. Looked for it in the UK. on amazon they just replaced the $ with £ so its £53. which is like $80. decided to give it a miss. went for the dongle I found at £20.

If i'm reading this right, you can use any old wifi dongle with Smart TV? I don't want to get a TV then find out I have to pay a bomb to get it hooked online. Although I'd be perfectly happy with a cable running through, but the mrs will kill me

    I found this on ebay:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-compat...-/111000722594
It is 100% compatible with Samsung Smart TV sets and it's only 20 pounds!
