Why must there always be a kissing scene in a movie?

Give me an answer please. I don't see alot of movies but the big action ones in the summer. Really looking forward to Spiderman and Batman. However in both movie trailers I've seen they BOTH have a kissing scene in them. I mean, do we ALWAYS have to have love in non romantic movie?

I understand it may help weave a plot, but damn it's getting kinda tired to me.

    See John Carpenters The Thing.
Not only is there no kissing, there are no women in the movie.
    Fantastic movie as well.

you could try watching "good" movies

but yeah, i find it weird sometimes. especially when there is no need for it. i've seen very few "kissing" scenes that were actually well placed and fit the story/plot situation.

i hate those over the top crap scenes where hero pulls back girl by the arm as she walks away....yuk!

Gattaca is one (off the top of my head) that has a "kissing" scene and it fits the theme of the movie so well.
the misen scene, tone, even the timing. all perfect!

You could always try a porno. No kissing, lots of drilling and heavy nailing scenes though.

Sometimes its blatantly obvious that there was no romantic relationship between the characters and the kiss was just crammed in as fan service of sorts.

I find it more annoying when a movie that could be perfectly watched with the family and kids is ruined by adding some mature content that doesn't add any value or anything to the movie.

This nails it. For me it actually makes me abit uncomfortable in a theater watching some of it. They do the crap just because it's cliche in movies and I guess writer feel they MUST have a love scene somehow. The avengers didn't, and it didn't sexalize The Black Widow either and everybody likes that movie.

It's for the ladies and effeminate men.

I will when you stop taking things so seriously.

and it didn't sexalize The Black Widow
LOL yes it did. The slightly zipped down costume to reveal some boobage? IM2 pretty much made her a sex symbol. And let's not forget Pepper Potts in those fine booty shorts.

And you know what? Who gives a $#@! if did? It's there for hardcore Scarlett fans. And sex sells, sooo...

If you don't count the many money shots on Scarlett, then yeah, Black Widow wasn't needlessly sexualized.

As for why we keep seeing kissing scenes in trailers, I feel it has to do with initiating moviegoers who aren't big fans of the movie's genre. The types who would normally have no reason to see it when they are egged on by their friends...but are more likely to justify seeing it if they know there's promise of a romance angle somewhere in the movie and doubly so if they know it will reach to the height of an intimate scene. It creates more interest for them in who those characters are and how they will develop, and they will thus see it if someone asks them to. Obviously, the movies in question aren't romance in genre, so the kiss scene establishes the notion to these people that the romantic subplot does get somewhere "good".

This could apply to girls, girlfriends, males with a notable interest in romantic characterization, etc, and when you add it all up you get a sizable demographic. We ought to remember that love is a universal concept that is important to everyone at some level, especially females and the emotion-driven types, so it becomes a very easy device for broadening a movie's potential audience from a somewhat subconscious level.

The concept is simple when you think about it. What if Batman and Spiderman had no Catwoman or Gwen Stacy? Should we think the movie would net the same amount of viewers? It's possible, but unlikely for reasons above.
