What can we do to help?

Recently, a very active and good member left PSU. Now PSU does have new members joining every day, but maybe 1 out of 20 stay and post and 1 out of 50 become active members for a while. We're losing more active members than quality members joining.

I don't get it, yes this forum has problems but the articles and news reporting is good. The site should be attracting new members and they should be joining the forum. I can't understand why no one stays here long term, unless there's stuff going on in pms and drama I don't see connected to this site and forums.

What can we, the members, do to help? If I'm the only member wanting new members and new discussions, then what can I do to help?

Exactly. The active members leave because the veteran members left. Which causes like a chain reaction.

I'm staying. It's taking me some time to wanna contribute as much as I always have due to my situation. The place is still good member wise. I have a better opinion for almost all the active members, compared to the differences I had with some of them.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but while Ghost-Rhayne is a fun guy and all, I really doubt the authenticity of someone leaving when they have their account set to invisible mode. In any case, members of the staff can check to see the last time someone was online. Ghost-Rhayne was last online yesterday. He left the day before. And even so, he didn't say he was leaving for good.

Of course, it would help if these people would explain to those who run the forums what it is that's bugging them so that they can try and help instead of trying to make a martyr of themselves by just up and leaving one day.

We've had threads like this in the past. Yes, it does suck that some of the members that contributed hours and hours of their time to make this community the great place it is have decided to leave. But that's to be expected. A lot of the members who have left have probably done so because they've found something more suiting to them, or simply aren't interested in being active on forums anymore, or maybe they're just too busy to.

Ultimately, I don't think there's really anything that can be done to prevent that. There were some members that left a few years back due to disagreements with the way this site was run, but by the looks of it, the staff here is better than ever, with a great blend of new staffers eager to learn the ropes and some of the veteran staff members returning (see: Nuvian). I don't think there's much we as members can do to prevent veteran members from leaving at some point other than doing what we've been doing, which is stimulating intelligent, interesting, and thought-provoking discussion.

Well i am still here, i am not classified as a new member and believe i am not going anywhere and you will see a lot of me. I am active and thread worthy. But i need to be on the ball and study who has made threads on topics i want to post, so their is no doubles

So the question is. How do we get the new members more involved in the forum and continue the leagecy of the past active members. Yes the site has issuses

But they should not repell any new members that want a long stay on the forum

I think I'm still classified as new right? Only been here a couple of months. Anyway's the way I see it people come and go can't do much about it. I don't know what else this place needs. I like it here lots of cool folks.

i've maintained that the new "darker" theme would keep people at bay. the previous light blue theme was a lot more welcoming.

that being said, its natural evolution. i've been around (not always active) for near 5 years and i have fond memories of simply reading threads. these threads are quite rare nowadays. maybe the next gen is needed to bring in the next batch of new posters.

the staff are great but it kinda sucks that i don't see vintage or coma (for eg) anywhere near as often as i used to.

Kuro, you would've gotten along extreamly well with some of the older posters, especially 3 or 4 years back.

That we are not tied to the forum and have are own life lead. It can not always revolve around the forum. The forum is what it is and we can see the gain in keeping the forum going. But we again do not have to have are life revolve around

didn't the forum used to have community run incentives??

i seem to remember a "Quality post" incentive when i joined. regardless, its stuff like this that gave people reason to stay. the forum is really open now. no restrictions of any sort. easy come easy go.....

I would actively encourage people to share their thoughts, claud3. Especially when the people who are leaving don't give any indication as to why it is they decided to leave. I will say though that it was shortly after Ghost-Rhayne wrongly assumed the staff of letting certain people get away with their stupid list wars that he decided to leave. If this is the case, then I want to make it clear that we have and will always continue promoting an environment where everyone is treated fairly.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

We are a community, yes, and Members and staff alike work hard to maintain the place and strive to makthis enjoyable to talk about what we love. True

But when it comes down to it, this is a website. People's personal interests may change over time, commitments need to be made, People just get bored of gaming for a while. It's life. there are so many variables in regards to people coming and going, but personally, I just enjoy the time I have here while I'm here.
Not that I'm leaving anytime soon. Lol.


Also yes, I agree with blacksite us staff are always here with open ears, and when we make decisions we try to do so as openly and fairly as possible.

When it comes to threads like this, I always become curious how the activity will change once the PS4 comes around. I was here when the PS3 hype was beginning and this forum wasn't any better in terms of features or anything (perhaps it had less bugs). But it was just the overwhelming excitement for a new generation and our great SEO placement (Search Engine Optimization) that lead to so much activity.

Right now the video game world is boring, with the exception of a few next-gen tech demos. Even E3 saw much less attendance. Hell, I didn't even watch it this year. So what I'm saying is, if there isn't a resurgence once the PS4 is nearing, then we'll definitely know there's a problem.

While I haven't exactly 'left' PSU, I am finding myself on here less and less, owing partly to the fact that there isn't really anything interesting or exciting to keep me here and partly because all the decent members are leaving. Like Blacksite has already pointed out, a fair few veteran members have left, the members I regularly spoke to and had decent conversation with. I'm not dissing the new members but I'd take the veterans over them any day.

Also, the next-generation console are not going to be the ones that keep the forum going, even though its the core of the forum

But its the intelligences that members bring to the forum. Were healthy arguments can take place and well placed threads on subjects we all can have a contsuctive conversation in and stand out from the crowd

The help means that the place stays coherent and respectful, fair disciplinary efforts, and contributions from the members via replies entered and/or threads created. Period.
