http://zoknowsgaming.com/2012/06/25/...yer-storyline/Sorry to disappoint a lot of you, but unlike previously believed Call of Duty: Black Ops II will not feature a branching storyline according to Treyarch Director of Communications John Rafacz. In clarifying the impact of the much hyped Strike Force missions on the overall storyline, Rafacz said that “It shapes the fiction around the ending.” Wait…what?
He went on to say that “The core single-player experience is one that you and I will share. This is not that kind of experience. It’s an opportunity to introduce an element of non-linearity; action that takes place away from the main storyline. So it breaks up the gameplay but still helps shape that ultimate end.”
So essentially these Strike Force missions themselves will be non-linear but will not be a part of the game’s main storyline, its like a parallel sub story that augments it. Therefore, the game’s main storyline will be linear and play out exactly the same for everyone. I thought that the possibility for branching storylines was perhaps the biggest innovation in Black Ops II but now it seems that it will be more of a background component than a major part of the core narrative.
So there you have it, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 will have some non-linear elements intertwined throughout the gameplay but none of those things “directly” affect the ending of the game it seems. Honestly, this seems like a huge lost opportunity to me and players may or may not put a lot of weight into the Strike Missions since they now know that it won’t have any true affect on the game’s outcome. What does it matter if you succeed or fail?
An interesting revelation to say the least, hit up the comments and let us know what you think about the news? Call of Duty: Black Ops II is out November 13 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. And maybe Wii U but no word of any kind on that possibility.

First they say one thing and then another. It was stupid of me to think Call of Duty could change with the campaign.

Why make the effort to do such things? People are still gonna buy it...
Those who complain about COD being the same crap and dislike it for that reason but then go and buy it are the worst type of gamers IMO.

That's really disappointing. It sounded like they were going to take more risks but I guess not. That's a shame.

What I find more interesting is that these games still come with a single-player experience. I didn't know people still cared. It's like 2 hours worth of trashcan fodder. Should put those resources into making the multiplayer a lot better and non-useless!

The game would drop to a budget release if it didn't have the SP Campaign
And thats the problem this gen, people have lost focus
SP = The Game
MP = A Feature
Cuz lets face it, without a internet connection & online players the only thing ya got is a £40 tea coaster

I really enjoy the single player experiences and big action set pieces.
I watched the blopsII e3 footage and like the option the game gave of either hanging back and sniping or rappelling down to the front line. I know it isn't a branching story line but at least there's a bit of variety to how you want to play it.
I'm looking forward to black ops II, more so than I have in a while for a CoD game and prefer the Treyarch games, WaW is still my fave.
Dedicated, ranked servers (pc) is also another selling point over the mw series.

No. That's the problem you're facing. MP is the focus, SP is the feature(Throw-in) in today's gaming. To show you proof of this nonsense, even God of War is receiving MP. We're talking about GOD OF WAR!!! Single-Player days are over and we live in a world now where everything has to be connected. And you can bet your bottom dollar that COD would still be far from a budget release even if it was Online-Only. While I agree that the core of development should be towards SP, fact remains that the times have changed and that's no longer the case. Welcome to the world of Online gaming. 2007-Present. When it comes to shooters anyway.

Thats funny, Warhawk £19.99 > Starhawk £39.99
Socom Confrontation £17.99 > Socom 4 £39.99
COD without a campaign is just a map-pack
And I know GOW has multiplayer now Assassins Creed has it too, doesn't mean its any good
One of thw biggest problem I have with online games is the game becomes useless once people stop playing
And another thing, online only players suck at games, sorry they do
They've so use to playing against someone who makes loads of mistakes and thinks they're John Rambo that they when they do play against well-written AI all you hear is "the game is cheating" lol
And they're baffled when someone who hardly plays MP games slaughters their clan
And the reason being is, fighting 30 good AI's on the hardest difficulty whoes sole purpose is to kill you requires more skill then killing 30 headless chickens
Btw, Thats not targeted at anyone, I'm sure you guys are just as badass offline as you are online
