I just got Metro 2033 and Stalker: SoC on disc. I want to install the games from the disk but I also want the games linked on Steam. In short how do I install the game from the disc and have it linked on Steam where I don't have to download it via entering the CD key. I have limited bandwidth usage monthly so just entering the cd key and downloading is not an option. Thanks.

Install the games then go to steam. While in steam go to the games tab at top and pick add non steam game to library. Now find the files you installed and pick the ones that are the game launchers. Select them and add the games. I hope these are good enough directions.

Will using the cd key during the install process create a conflict with adding the key in steam? I'm not certain that they will ask for the cd key but most do. That was really the biggest problem I had in mind. I haven't done anything yet because I didn't want to screw anything up and not be able to add the key in steam after installing it on the PC.

You can only add them as non-steam games.

If your game is not on this list you cannot add it to steam account.

But you can Add it as a non steam game to your library so can use the overlay and screenshot functions.

Metro is supported.
Metro 2033 CD Keys in this format: 1AB2C-D3FGH-456I7-JK8LM-NOP9Q
To activate it

Try this to install from the disc
Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc
Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:
Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

Thanks for all the help guys. I finally got Metro to install from disc.
@Keefy- Luckily I was about to get it to install without using that method. I tried it and I couldn't make heads or tails of what it was actually telling me to do to install it from disc. Everytime that I tried to install it always went to download only. I had to uninstall it twice to get it to actually work from installing on disc.

Yes its a common issue I have seen many threads on the steam forums saying the same.
Back when HL2 was new there was no such problem installing from disc although now it is pointles because they changed so much of the engine I would probably have to redownlaod it all.
