News: Skyrim lead artist Matt Carofano has been talking about what the arrival of the PS4 and Xbox 720 would mean for him and his team at Bethesda Game Studios.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a pretty impressive technical feat as it stands, but, as always with game developers, they can’t stop dreaming about what they could do with more power. Skyrim’s lead artist Matt Carofano has been talking about exactly what differences the next generation of consoles could enable him and the rest of the Bethesda Game Studios team to achieve.

“In our games we try to throw everything into it at once,” Carofano explained. “We try to make a game so you can play however you want, you can try a bunch of stuff out, have a bunch of quests going, so obviously new hardware would allow us to do even more of that.”

“You know speaking purely from the art side of things, just having more memory! It’s something we always have to fight with,” he told Eat Games in an interview about Skyrim DLC expansion Dawnguard. “We’re looking at higher resolution characters, models and textures. It is going to look tremendously better because of the jump, but we’re really really happy with the current generation consoles with what we’ve been able to push and get out of them.”

When asked whether the step up to the Xbox 720 and PS 4′s level of processing power would see them switching to the likes of ID Tech 5, he asserted: “We’re really happy with the Creation Engine. We remade every aspect of it for Skyrim and it’s a really good base for us to do the types of games we want to do.”

The reason being that Bethesda built the Creation Engine with scaling up in mind: “I mean it’s sort of all up to what kind of things we want to focus on to change, but we have a lot of control over this engine and what we would like add it to. Every system was rewritten when we went from Fallout 3 to Skyrim so we could develop it further if we needed to.”

More is always better since we can have more AI, less loading times, better models, better textures, better lighting, etc, etc, etc. I personally am not in a rush for the next generation unlike I was from PS2 to PS3, but I'm really excited to see what next gen will be like after seeing Sleeping Dogs.

    Did you mean watch dogs?
Because watch dogs seems 10x more impressive than sleeping dogs.
