Microsoft Secures Xbox 8″ Domain Name

Microsoft have secured the rights to a series of key domain names, including two relating to a rather exciting (on some level) Xbox 8″ branding.
Now, naturally this doesnt automatically mean that the next Xbox console will be called Xbox 8 it might, but its likely just a case of the platform holder protecting their valuable IP.
Other domain names involved in the dispute, which were owned by a resident of China, include XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com and XboxCompanion.com.
Rumours in the recent past have included names for Microsofts next console as Infinity and Loop. Turning an 8′ sideways looks like two boiled eggs, so its clearly going to be called the Eggsbox.

Well, not sure Xbox 8 is all that great of a name if true. Not that the name matters, but I would rather it just be Xbox 3. I understand the whole "8" metro experience for all of the platforms from Microsoft. But I don't know. I guess I am just used to saying Xbox (for the original Xbox), and Xbox 360/360 for the current. "Xbox 8" or "8" just seems weird.

I think it sounds better than calling it the Xbox Loop or Xbox Infinity. Calling it the Xbox 3 makes sense only when you take into account the previous generations of Xbox consoles. But it's not like Sony's PlayStation consoles where they gradually move from the PSone to the PS2 and PS3.

Of course, Microsoft could always call it something else when do they get around to its unveiling. All this really tells us is that Windows 8 plays a role in their upcoming console.
