Religion: Does It Matter In Politics

Romney is a Mormon. Obama is a Muslim, no, he's a Christian. My question is: does it even matter?

That's what I'm asking you guys. It came up in a conversation with a friend the other day. Does your opinion of politicians base itself, even in part, on their religion?

Me personally, it's a no. I'd vote for a Satanist if I agreed with his policies.

No, religion should hold no place outside the places they are practiced..and their views shouldn't be forced on others. I don't care what anyone believes in, they have that right..just don't let it affect your job.

If the religion starts to affect their policies however..that's when you have a problem.

I don't care what religion a person is as long as it doesn't affect his decision after he is elected. Now am I more compelled to vote for a Catholic, over a satanist if there policies are near the same? Probably.

Religion has no business being in Government, because government should be run as a business, not a charity house.

No. Religion does not belong in politics anymore than it needs to be. Time and time again it has shown to be negative and counterproductive.

Allowances have been made as long as it stays civil. And this isn't really about religion, as much as it is why religion should not be in government.

You see in that case I would probably vote for the satanist..just for the lulz. (That is if the policies were the same).

It is, one way or another. I think religion should not be a big part of any government affairs, but that's a bit unrealistic. So you have to deal with the hand you're given.

Ideally, a secular government that recognizes the importance of "God" to its people and allows them to conduct their own religious affairs with as little interference as possible would be perfect. US tried to be this way at first, but has since regressed over the decades.

    22. No Religious topics and no abuse of political topics - Religious topics are banned. Any member trolling, flaming or being outright disrespectful in a political topic will be infracted without warning. In addition, the amount of infraction points issued for any unacceptable behavior in these threads is higher than it is elsewhere in the forum. This is a result of members behaving poorly in these topics on previous occasions. PSU promotes intelligent discussion and the staff will clamp down very heavily on any member abusing their posting privileges in these topics.

As of right now I am going to stand by this rule. I am going to close this thread and ask a moderator to decide to open it or trash it.
