That vid honestly surprised me I might actually pick this up now. I have to say though seeing this game makes me remember the "marvel showdown" (unofficial title) game that was supposed to be released by EA Chicago but was canceled anyone else remeber that?

It looks promising. The added (and slightly more dynamic) stage interaction is nice and adds just a that touch of variety to the standard 2D Fighter formula. I especially like the on-stage options/hazards, though, since you would have to constantly be aware of them and they appear to change after utilizing them (which is even better). My favorite was ripping off that contraption at the top of the batcave and suddenly it becomes a hazard. It's cool because you instantly lose some aerial options and forces a change in strategy and makes the stage more dynamic.

Transition elements are cool, too, but I can't be sure if they need to offer so much damage opportunity. When you have a way of interrupting the current momentum of a fight by going to another setting, that can is a valuable asset on its own for getting out situations where you lack control over the match. I would say a more balanced approach is for transitions to allow for very little to no damage at all so that the fighting stays where it needs to be: at the 2D arenas.

Regardless, the game could be quite good. We'll see.
