Phantasy Star Online 2 'set for early 2013 western release'

Sega is preparing to launch Phantasy Star Online 2 across Europe and America in early 2013, according to a press release that appears to have leaked early.
The free-to-play multiplayer RPG will arrive more than ten years since the pioneering Dreamcast original. The Sega press release, which has yet to emerge on official channels, claims that the game will launch in the west on PC.

"Phantasy Star Online was a revolutionary game when it was released, and we want to make sure that its successor in the series is every bit as ambitious," said Chris Olson, vice president of digital at Sega.

"We look forward to introducing Phantasy Star Online 2's unique, easy-to-access multiplayer action to the rest of the world next year."

Satoshi Sakai, the producer of Phantasy Star Online 2 at Sega of Japan, said: "The number one thing we want to provide players in Phantasy Star Online 2 is an adventure that changes every time they log in. Just as great table-top RPG experiences revolve around imaginative and unexpected encounters, we want players to consistently be surprised as they explore dungeons and undertake quests."

I almost forgot about this game. It's also coming to the PlayStation Vita.

Anyways, I enjoyed Phantasy Star Online for the Sega Dreamcast so I'm looking forward to playing this once it's released next year.

Sony announced it back in March, apparently, supporting cross-platform play with the PC.

I could not have said it better. I just wish Ragnorok would come out soon rather then later, I really want it thought about importing it a few times.

Ragnarok is coming to the Vita? As in the mmo Ragnarok Online? or a different title that just happens to have Ragnarok in the title? Cross platform play for PSO2 and handheld RO would make the Vita an instant buy for me. lol

I think Dave's talking about Ragnarok Odyssey.

XSEED announced plans to have the game localized back in May.

In addition to bringing Orgarhythm stateside sometime before the end of this calendar year, XSEED has also announced equally nebulous plans to localize Ragnarok Odyssey for North American audiences and their Vitas. This follows the game's Japanese release last February, though how closely it'll follow remains to be seen.

Set in the same world as Ragnarok Online, Odyssey is a Monster Hunter-esque runabout wherein the player's (fully customizable) character traverses the world, hunting "monsters and giants" as they do so. Players can choose from six different job classes, switching between missions when necessary, and play cooperatively either online or via local ad-hoc network, the later of which supports up to four players at a time.

It looks really good, will definitely give it a go if it's similar to MH. Really enjoy playing MH:FU ad-hoc with my brothers. As for PSO2 it's an ambitious project for the Vita and Sega is in a bit of a financial pickle so here's hoping it's good so I can support them, as their Vita support has been much better than others so far..

I don't mind that at all but in order for it to be successful they do not need to repeat the xbox dreamcast mistake please no serial number rigging of the software it gets old fast especially if the hardware fails and you have to replace your vita you dont want to have to replace your game as well.
