So a lot of us know, especially NFL fans, that QB Michael Vick went to prison for torturing and killing a LOT of dogs. He went to jail for a total of 23 months, almost two years. On top of that, he can not own a dog for at least a while and is regarded as one of the most hated Sports figures, particularly by dog and animal lovers.
However, people defended Michael Vick. Some stated, "You sent that man to jail for 2 years over some DOGS?!" Others said, "People fight dogs all the time. Why did all this happen to Vick? Is it because he's black?"
What about you, PSU? What do you think? Do you think 2 years in prison, punishment by the NFL, and not being able to own a dog as a pet is too big a punishment? Or do you think it's actually too little a punishment?
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention Michael Vick and dogs, here is a wiki pedia article to read about it:

It's too little a punishment for what he did.

Far too little. Why would anyone do that to a dog? If someone harmed a dog of nine it would be like they hurt a child of mine. I'd be pissed!!
I am a massive dog lover though so I am biased

07-09-2012 #5He has a point, except when people hunt deer they don't torture them.Stephon Marbury, a point guard for the Boston Celtics, called dogfighting a sport and compared it to hunting and said that we don't react the same when other animals die.
What do you guys think of that statement?Awww! Little baby bunny! <3

Bullet to the brain for instant death VS dogs fighting to the death with metal teeth.
Hmm

The fuck kinda retards said this?
And what kind of argument is that supposed to be?
Dog fighting is a federal crime. The frequency of an undetected crime is supposed to be some kind of defense against the charges placed when the crime IS detected?
That's like lamenting a burglar's sentence because people rob houses 'all the time'.
Anyway, I guess the sentence was suitable enough. He seems to have learned his lesson. But I pretty much trashed my Vick jerseys after the whole ordeal, as did a lot of former fans.

I had to check the date of this thread because I thought for sure I was going to see 2007.
Dante Stallworth killed someone while drinking and driving. His sentence was 30 days in jail. So do I think Mike Vick was punished too harshly? Hell ya I do!!!!
-

Yeah the Dante Stallworth punishment was laughable to say the least. He should have probably at least gotten 10 years and had to serve 4-5. He had been drinking. But on subject. I honestly don't think he was given enough. Torturing/fighting dogs is about like molesting children in my book. Not on the level of severity but the fact that you can control the dogs and make them do what you want against their own will. It takes a fucked up individual to do something like that.

I don't watch Football, but I do have a dog. An ass whooping to the point where he is crippled for life and can't play football anymore is a good punishment. That's my primal side talking. Sure, I'm happy he's in prison, but he shouldn't anywhere near a dog for life. Not for just a long while.
But let me respond to the person who said this:
Err, what? huh? What people is he referring to? Because he got caught doing it. Oh right, pull the race card. I fucking hate that so much. I feel like saying "yes, it's exactly because your black" to tell them what they want to hear."People fight dogs all the time. Why did all this happen to Vick? Is it because he's black?"

On the basis that humans do horrible things to each other all the time and receive pathetically small punishments, yes his sentence was far too harsh.
The law needs to be more balanced.

He shoudl have got longer probably the maximum they could sentence him to which is 5 years if I read correctly afterall he was the owner of the kennels.
But when rapists get off scot free shows how messed up the law system can be.Last edited by keefy; 07-09-2012 at 18:54.

Looking at this objectively...
Michael Vick served an appropriate amount of time. The system did its job and Vick has shown to be rehabilitated. That is the entire point of the correctional system and it's exactly what most Americans expect from it. If Vick had served three more years, the outcome wouldn't have been any different than it is right now. He wouldn't be any more remorseful than he can already be and he wouldn't be any more rehabilitated either.
In fact, I'd wager had Vick had to serve three more years in prison it would've had an adverse effect on him and instead of being rehabilitated with no issues rejoining society, he probably would've became a thug and lifetime criminal due to the hatred of the situation he was in (despite it being his own doing).
----------
As a side note:
Please stop throwing out "opinions" on the Donte Stallworth case if you have not followed the case at all. Stallworth CHOSE to do 30 days in jail and his lawyers advised him to plead not guilty because if he had, he would have won the case and spent ZERO days instead. The only reason Stallworth took a plea deal was because he felt that was the moral thing to do in the situation.
Jose Reyes, the victim, was very shady and many suspect he was looking for a quick pay day.

I voted too little.
I think the jail time was enough for the law, the NFL did its' thing, but I don't think he should ever own a dog again.
I know saying he should never own a dog again is unchristian like, but I'm just not christian enough to feel he should own a dog again. I admit I am not the perfect christian.Awww! Little baby bunny! <3

Yeah, he can apply in any state. It's not really that big of a deal, despite it sounding like one.

I don't give a rats ass what the lawyers and Dante agreed to. He killed a person drinking and driving and served 30 days. Casey Anthony kills her 2yr old child and walks away. Vick kills some dogs and serves 5yrs.
I do not need to hear excuses for why they served or didn't serve time. What we do know, is the crime that was committed.
It is quite obvious that Vick would have served a much lessor sentence if he slammed a few beers and killed someone with his vehicle. Ridiculous.Last edited by Lethal_NFS; 07-09-2012 at 21:19.
