But has our post counts been reduced from this forum change cause im sure I had over 9,800 posts but now only have 9,615 posts ?

Some very old forums did get deleted, and I updated the counters... so it is possible some people will see a post count decrease.

Can't they just be hidden not to decrease post count? (not really sure how the forum is set up (phpBB?) but similar services seemed to have that option)

the forums that i deleted, in truth, shouldn't have even affected post counts. Most were really old. REALLY old.

I hid some threads, deleted others.

The deleted ones cannot be undone

Cuguy, with time differences between countries and all, if all goes to plan, when are you hoping to reveal what's actually going to happen some time today? 10-12 hours from now?

The poll question is screwy, it is in two parts and the yes/no could apply to both. It has two opposing questions in the same sentence LOL!

My two farthings, just try letting it stay a subforum for awhile. The new layout is the best cleanup I have seen in years and is preparing for the next generation. There is so much churn going on with video games with Onlive, Gaikai, now this Android console cube, massive free to play at Steam, etc. that the old structure of forums is crumbling, otherwise trying to stick with the old categorizations leads to tangled messes.

Just try it for awhile. Would it really hurt? And maybe user signup will actually improve although this place really needs to employ Captcha, maybe not for first registration but as an additional check before being able to post to the forums.

The poll was pretty much one sided, so I stripped it and will leave the Microsoft forum a subforum for now.

Your point is true Steam is bigger than ever but now that section is more hidden than ever. It seems the community doesn't want to see other platforms on the main page so everything else was demoted.

We'll have to live with these changes I guess.. I'll probably be lurking those gaming sections less now that I can't see latest posts and will probably stick to Off-Topic section and read about recent Japanese games in the PS3 section.

Fanboy throwdown forums are now active!

Please read the rules and have some fun. This is an experiment to see how popular this is. If it dies, or people aren't having fun with it, then it will just disappear.

We haven't done anything like this before, allowing blatant fanboyism, so let's see how this goes!

NO blind trolling - back up each and every post you make. You say something like "PS3 sux" and don't expand on why, I will consider banning you from these discussions.
NO one word, two word replies. I agree and THIS are not answers. They are spam here. Each post much elaborate. This is a debate, not a troll thread. Be a fanboy here, but make sure you explain your post.
The graphics thread is for graphics, the other thread is for hardware. Simple. Never should the two meet. You can discuss the capabilities of the graphics hardware in the PS3/360 thread but not with screen shots.

and lastly...

it is important people realize.. it isn't a free for all, no holds barred. Forum rules can be applied and every post must have a point. if you are going in there, you better be ready to debate.

I personally think the Fanboy throwdown space could have been used for the 360/Nintendo/PC sections honestly. We've already decided our preferences and the idea of promoting the fact that people can be closed-minded and just argue for their preferred platform... I don't know how I feel about that. (referring to "fanboyism") I personally am not a fanboy of any of the consoles but I like the Openness/Japanese games of the Playstation, the Party Chat/Halo for 360, most first/second party Nintendo games are awesome.. and of course there is Steam.

Doesn't it promote sticking to one console as "two sides" will most likely keep arguing against each other not really shifting the other side's opinion at all?

As for the Graphics comparison section it seems pointless unless it's like Digital Foundry like a technical discussion where members of this forum learn about Graphics technologies, techniques, terms, and how stuff is accomplished and what games use.

This is all just my opinion of course.

Purpose of the forum is allow people who sleep in xbox or ps3 underwear to go in and stand up for what they want without fear the thread will be killed for derailing/fanboyish behavior.

how the forum is moderated will be in flux for awhile while it settles in... so just be aware.

as for the graphics comparison, no it isn't useless. Someone can now go in there, post an image they found and challenge people to produce one that beats it. Or they can criticize the DF or LoT threads with their opinions and prove why they think they are wrong. I think people can have fun with the graphics thread. Doesn't have to be 360/ps3. Wii U, Wii, PC, Onlive, whatever can be posted... it is all plats.

Maybe there could be a post count limit to help combat it.

@Cuguy I just wish you had promoted it as more of a technical discussion section were users can learn but also at the same time compare games on both Platforms (Like Digital Foundry does).. comparing screen shots is really going to go nowhere. :/ (Probably what people are going to do)

If the three sections don't work out.. can the staff just make them Xbox/Nintendo/PC sections?

The way I feel is.. if users are going crazy that the words Nintendo, Xbox, and PC are mentioned on the main page and have demoted them into subsections.. do you really think the same people will be open minded enough for the discussion to go anywhere?

I mean the majority of people here who own multiple consoles alongside their PS3/Vita probably won't post there anyways.

Fanboy throwdown should be entertaining. I enjoy both the PS3 and the 360 so I suspect I'll be doing more reading than posting there. Although I'm sure I'll throw something out there for fun. The graphics forum sounds good too.

To be honest, really, is the Wii even the WiiU on the same playing field as the 360/PS3? When it comes down to it, the internet just sort of ignores the Wii and its successes. There are hardly any direct comparisons that can be made, so Wii vs. other consoles is a boring discussion.

Personally I say yes it is, and the Wii U remains to be seen. But as I alluded to originally, it's that reason that I felt like I would defend them, because even though no one ever mentions them, the fact is, they are a video games company. And as much as neither company will admit it, they are all competitors with each other. But whatever, guess I won't visit that forum as much then. No biggie
