http://www.gamezone.com/products/gea...ony-exclusivesJust last year, Gears of War 3 sold more copies than virtually every PS3 exclusive that released. This includes the masterpiece Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Twisted Metal, Infamous 2, Motorstorm Apocalypse, and Socom 4. While you may think that it’s because there are more 360s (67 million) than PS3s (65 million) worldwide, the numbers show that this isn’t the case. So why do 360 exclusives sell better than PS3 exclusives? Well let's take a look.

This. If you go to a buffet that has 2 or 3 different foods, of course it will empty faster than if you go to a buffet that has 10-12 different foods, cause people have more choice and don't have to take from the limited 3 options. Marketing also has a lot to do with it, Sony don't seem to bother with this aspect...But basically what Chille said, and the article itself...In a recession, gamers can’t play every game that they want to. So in 2011, when Sony released a new AAA game every month, you’d have to choose which game you wanted to purchase or wait until a price drop or it became used. If you bought it used, Sony didn’t make any money, as only the retailer benefits from used game prices. With Gears of War 3, it was THE game to own on 360 and has sold 5.42 million new copies to date. Almost a year later, if you add up the Sony games mentioned above, they have surpassed Gears of War 3, but not by much.

they are simply have better marketing. We have not seen anyone market a ps3 game the way MS markets Halo or Gears....even Forza had better marketing compared to GT5.

I still say it's marketing. The way Microsoft marketed, Halo was clever since they turned it into an iconic figure for Xbox.

Having a lot of worse quality games doesn't mean much for Sony. Why do the games sell better than all those PS3 games? The "Sony has more choice" doesn't work as an crutch here.... if ONE Microsoft title sells more than all those counted for Sony combined sales, then there's something more at work here.
No, they need to increase their budget for their games, not reduce the quality of their games.

I guess so. Maybe PS3 guys are more casual (there's that word again
) than their 360 counterparts, meaning they play/buy less games?
Yungstar, thoughts?

I've never bought the whole "PS3 has so many exclusives that people can't buy them all" argument. If that was the case, why does Call of Duty sell so many copies on the PS3? Since Call of Duty does sell so many copies, what does Call of Duty have in common with games like Gears and Halo? Exactly - a killer online component. None of Sony's first party games have that addictive, full featured online component that makes the game the next thing that everyone has to own. They were damn close with KZ2...I'll give them that. I think Sony realizes this, too...they went all out with Uncharted 3's online but it just didn't have that addictiveness that games like Gears, Halo, and Call of Duty have.

All I see is one Xbox 360 exclusive outselling the PS3 exclusives. The thread title indicates that all Xbox exclusives outsell the PS3 exclusives.
Uncharted 3 sold more copies than Fable 3. Now what?
