Hello PSU friends and family, welcome to the official thread of all things comic related.

In collaboration with HellsJester for coming up with the idea and we basically just PM'd
each other back and forth discussing how the thread would turn out.
So from now on, anything you hear of something happening in the comic book world
will be discussed in this thread. That is, upcoming movies, TV shows, games etc.
Please discuss it here. I think we can make this a successful and ever-long thread.
No need to clutter the Entertainment section with separate ones when you can have it all here!
But we can't do that without your help, as a community, you have the power to help.
All we ask is for some of you to post news, as me and HellsJester will also be doing.
By doing so, you'll make this thread live long and prosper.

But no thread is perfect on the Internet, and with that in mind, there are rules.

1. Spoiler tags are a must, especially if you have seen a movie, read a new graphic novel or any leaked info that you think is spoiler-rific. That includes images like scans from a comic book and some videos too, if you have more than one in your post. Keep in mind that some of us have not seen or read the latest in comics.

2. No flame-baiting. That's coming in here and asking if Marvel or DC is better. No VS. comparisons either. Those turn ugly and result in personal attacks, and we just don't wanna see you guys go away for a week because you couldn't abide by a few simple rules. This rule includes the obvious no personal attacks, harassment etc. Take it to the PM's.

3. No spam posts. That means, don't post links with trojan horses and Pr0n, even though we all love it (the Pr0n). Cosplay girls are fine, as long as you post in spoiler tags. But they have to be comic book related. Going off topic is also considered spam and the post will be removed or edited at the request of the current mods. So if you talk about your last stool, the post will be deleted, however if there is a comic book character named Poo-Man or Poonelius, that's ok.

4. Double posting is allowed as long as you post content. But not comments.

This is a comic book thread of all things comic related, just like in the title. Discuss and post links to any news you hear. The OP will not be updated, so it's all in the posts.

Rules:

Breaking, from San Diego Comic Con. Marvel Studios has four films in active development.
They are calling this grouping of films Phase Two.

May 3rd: Iron Man 3

Then, Thor: The Dark World, directed by Game of Thrones’ Alan Taylor.

Next, Captain America: The Winter Soldier from the Russo brothers.

And…Guardian of the Galaxy, featuring: Drax, Groot, Starlord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon.

Oh, and Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.

I have a feeling that the movie will take place way before Thanos' appearance at the end of the Avengers. The Guardians of the Galaxy will fight Thanos and seemingly beat him, only for him to come back stronger, and this requires them to team up with the Avengers to beat him. I'm basing all of this from "The Thanos Imperative".

It'll be very interesting to see how they integrate this movie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe though, seeing as how they can't introduce the Silver Surfer, and that they haven't introduced Nova or Adam Warlock yet.

And I just wanna take a minute to say something.

We live in the age of SILVER SCREEN COMICS. What I mean by that is; there will dozens of movies adapted from comic books. The late 80's and 90's were just a glimpse of the future, a little appetizer. Then as the 21st century came. Big name companies tried to re-invent themselves with new make-overs but their sales were still staggering. People almost gave up on buying comic books altogether. And it was inevitable with the Internet. You can find any comic book or graphic novel that you desire without having to go out and buy it.

So after box office successes like Spider-Man and The Dark Knight trilogy, a new shift was happening in comics. Big name comics opted for more movies to be made. And soon, more and more independent companies will follow suit, because that's the new way to sell comics and it's working. People are buying graphic novels and comics to read what inspired the films they love so much. It's not as great as the silver or golden age of comics, but I believe one day, it will happen thanks to more movies.

We will see abandoned sequels to our favorite characters emerge on the big screen. New and exciting trilogies as well as new heroes and villains. And it doesn't stop there. Live action and animated series will grace Television. Video-games adapted from comics will dominate our social lives, and I cannot wait!

I cannot express how grateful I am to be born in this generation while this shift is happening. I am so glad that all my favorite heroes and stories are coming to the big screen. And even though at times this may seem like an over-saturation of overwhelming number of projects, there will movies from all companies that we will remember to our graves if we don't end up with memory loss. I believe that we are experiencing the main course special and we are in for one hell of a ride!

Description of ‘Ant-Man’ Test Footage Screened During Marvel Studios Panel

Marvel Studios has had writer/director Edgar Wright working away slowly on Ant-Man for years, but the character didn’t make the cut for The Avengers. With Wright being a Comic-Con regular, he’s been unable to avoid questions about the project, including last year while promoting Attack The Block. But this year he’s finally got more to offer than another update on the script status.

After reporting on rumors of the character’s potential involvement in Iron Man 3 and later hearing that Edgar Wright shot test footage for Ant-Man last month, Marvel Studios officially introduced the character with a fun and exciting video premiering at Comic-Con 2012.


The panel began with an epic video, highlighting Marvel Studios panels dating back to 2006, with key announcements, clips and forward-thinking statements from key Marvel players (mainly Marvel president Kevin Feige) and Edgar Wright was there from the very beginning. The video ended by saying “and now, phase two begins” to a roaring audience which was then followed up by the panel stating they’d talk about the four films they’re working on.

These were Iron Man 3 - the focus of this panel – followed by Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. But what about Ant-Man said panel moderator Geoff Boucher (Hero Complex)? Edgar Wright came out on stage, the fans went wild, and they screened the test footage he shot a few weeks ago. It was entirely unfinished but he asked the fans if they are sure they want to see it in that state and of course the building went nuts.

So, what was shown in the short clip?

Opening shot pans down from inside a vent looking down a brightly lit hallway, lined with silver colored panels. Inside the vent is a very small Ant-Man looking down the hallway to a door at the end, guarded by two men in suits.

Angle changes to corridor looking up to vent and we see little Ant-Man jumping down, changing size to normal as the armed men pull out side-arms to shoot.

Ant-Man shrinks, jumps up and we see a slow-mo shot of him punching the guard to his in the mouth.

Ant-Man goes full size as he engages the second guard, shrinks again as he jumps and grabs the guard’s tie, going full-size as he goes over and using the momentum to flip the guard over his should through a glass window.

Ant-Man, then patiently walks and enters the elevator door as a few more glass bits fall from the window.

Ant-Man’s costume concealed his face entirely but is very similar to the books (seen above and below). When he transforms, he phases and instantly becomes the other size. It was a pure action sequence and showcases how Ant-Man can be a very cool and unique spy for SHIELD. His abilities are very unique and he’s a trained operative. Wright said after the footage: “Ant-Man will kick you ass one inch at a time.”

With what was done in so little time, and without finished effects, any dialogue or even an actor, what was shown proves that Ant-Man can work. If they’re willing to make Rocket Raccoon a reality in Guardians of the Galaxy, the Ant-Man character will get his time to shine.

Ahh I envy the people who get to attend comic-con and see all the footage that will never make it to Youtube. And if it does, it will immediately get deleted within seconds. Sooo lucky. IMO, Comic-con is way more exciting than E3.

But in other news, Director of Hellboy, Guillermo del Toro and actor Ron Perlman want to make Hellboy 3. This isn't greenlit nor is any studio on board, but a make-a-wish visit inspired them to do so.

I've never even heard of Guardians of the Galaxy before (not a big comic book guy) but I must say I am intrigued, the characters seem really cool

VERY keen for Iron Man 3 though, it comes out a day after my birthday just like the others DD

I saw this yesterday...

Item 47, the longest and most ambitious of the "One-Shots," set to be featured on the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Avengers on September 25th.

The short itself runs 12 minutes and stars Jesse Bradford and Lizzy Caplan as Benny and Claire, Marvel's answer to Bonnie to Clyde. They've recovered one of 47 Chitauri weapons left behind after "The Battle of New York" and have decided to use it to go on a bank-robbing spree. Maximillano Hernandez returns as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Sitwell and we're introduced to Titus Welliver's Agent Blake. They've been tasked with bringing in the fugitives.

Without delving into heavy spoilers, it's safe to say that Item 47 is the most fulfilling of the "One-Shots" so far and manages to explain a lot of the questions fans have already been asking (e.g. there's a reason this one Chitauri weapon is still working) but connections to other Marvel Studios projects are few and these new characters are not necessarily being set-up for anything further down the line.
