Why has the PS2 not been discontinued yet?

What are you talking about? The PS2 is is discontinued. You will not find a new PS2 at any local retail chain like Gamestop, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. The only way you could find a new one, is if it were some left over stock. Or online of course.

Not in all countries, I know they sell it in places like Japan and south America.

As for games, I saw at EB games re-prints of kingdom hearts 1 and 2, some of the final fantasy games and a few others like Black. So they are still coming from somewhere, but not many at all.

It's a great console and I actually bought one off eBay and got t YESTERDAY for my 9 yeah old sister. The games on it are perfect for her tastes and it compliments the Wii I got her the previous year.

Most electronic stores and game outlets here have a lot of stock (consoles and games), in stores, the PS2 game isle/area is as big as the PS3 and 360 isles. 150+ million strong! Oh and this year, there was MLB 12 on PS2. You can expect to see PS3 perform even better than the PS2 through next gen. That things gonna be around for a LONG time.

Looks that way. They understand that in lesser developed countries their older consoles can still do very well. I mean, last year at E3 they introduced a new PSP revision, Vita was out this year, new PS3 slim coming and then PS4 next year most probably or early 2014. PS2 will never die

The only mistake Sony are making atm with PS2 is not rereleasing mega budget editions of PS2 games for $10 each.

I can only find them in pawn shops and retro gaming shops here in Canada lol. $50 is the highest price for one. Same deal with the Xbox. The worst thing Sony did is take way BC from PS3 Slim.

Actually it's not for the reason you think you have very religious house holds that think spending 300.00 for a console is a rip off and refuse to pay it this is why the ps2 is still going strong i have three myself
