Analyst claims Nintendo gave in to demands for conventional controller by Activision

EDGE has reported that Nintendo made the Pro Controlller after Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, refused to make the game for its new GamePad, which features a touchscreen.

This claim comes from Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who was speaking about Nintendo's new console at the Develop Conference held in Brighton last week.

Pachter was extremely skeptical about the chances of Wii U. "I don’t get it," he said. "I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem. I mean, somebody had an idea - 'let's make the controller a tablet' - and there aren't many games that are going to take advantage of that.

"Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call Of Duty they said, 'No, we're not putting it on there if you don't give us a conventional controller'. So they gave in."

I'm putting two and two together to conclude that Activision put pressure on them [Nintendo]. I do not know this either first-hand or third-hand; nobody told me. I am merely deducting it from what we know, and it's an educated guess.

If the Pro controller is for multiplatform games, that mean it is for third-party games. Nintendo hasn't done anything altruistically for third parties, so I concluded that they added the Pro Controller because of pressure from third parties. The pressure could have come from anywhere - EA with sports games, Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed, or Take-Two with GTA - but it seems to make the 'prize' that would make the Wii U legitimate as a console of choice for multiplatforms games is Call of Duty," Pachter explained to video game website Gamesbeat.

Lol! Or it could be that they want a way to have 4 player games. Since those buttons are the same that are on the GamePad, and since it doesn't support 4 GamePads, this is way to support 4 players without having to use Wiimotes
