Doesn't make any sense. I've had a bad night so I might not be understanding this properly.

I think that once the new xbox is released, the old xbox should have online play for free.

I wish we got free shit with PSN+ instead of renting.
So I can use Sony's cloud service without paying a fee? I get earlier access to demos and betas on my PSN without a fee? I get automatic trophy sync without a fee on PSN? I get all those same "stripped" services on my paid for XBL Gold account as well. Sony has STRIPPED those from PSN. You must have a special PSN over there in Kansas CityNo matter how hard you try to make it look like they both try to force you to pay for their service, Microsoft hands down does the best job of that. By stripping you of all the services Sony lets you use without an extra fee.
Sony and MS milk the fuck out of their consumers equally from my point of view.Seriously man. It is easily the biggest no brainer as to which company milks their consumers the most.
I would miss out on some of the best online gaming experiences EVER if I dumped XBL and just stuck with PSN. Luckily I get both! With that said, I say to save your $60 and stick to the free PSN service.

lol I've never paid $60 for Live. Not even close to that. And PSN is only free if youre satisfied with a bare bones service. If you want any real features like cloud saves, etc. you'll have to pay for PS+. And the "free" games also require that you pay for PS+. So youre still paying. Its just basically a game rental service in that respect. Sony takes those games away from you if you stop paying for PS+.

Does not matter that you find deals on the service. That is the price Microsoft charges.
So don't get PS+. I never said anyone had to. That is the beauty of the PSN. There is nothing that makes you say, "Damn, I need to pay for this service." Microsoft makes you feel like that.
And if you guys do not feel that way, then please pm me. I have a lot of shit I would like to sell you.

Anytime. Edited previous post to make it a bit more obvious.

Meh, no need for that simply because Sony doesn't offer features like Microsoft does. It's understandable I guess, that it puts some into a spot where they don't support other brands.

The main feature the PS3 is lacking is cross game chat. Consumers aren't going to care about how something works.
They'll be more interested in what they get out of it, what it delivers.
Microsoft needs to offer Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant video without a gold subscription. Most other devices do.
Gold adds nothing to those services [Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video.]
Having said that, most people I know who pay for Gold is because they want to play online.Last edited by sainraja; 07-23-2012 at 03:05.

There are more things involved other than chat. smh. I'd suggest a little research into what goes inside your Gold membership. Most other devices do for a reason... because it doesn't have anything to do with their infrastructure... oh wait, they don't have one of those.

What exactly are they?
I'll say again, consumers aren't going to be concerned with how a technology works on the back-end. That's something Microsoft or Sony worries about. People who view websites don't care about what the code behind the site looks like, they care about the content on the site.
Consumers are going to look at features. Things they can use and take advantage of. If we are going to talk services, then the PSN is better simply because I don't need to be a member of PSN+ to have Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Instant video on my PS3.
I already pay for those separately so why should I pay Sony/Microsoft?

Infrastructure? All XBL's "infrastructure," does in the case of Netflix, Hulu or Amazon instant video is block out those who aren't paying members of Xbox Live Gold.Last edited by sainraja; 07-23-2012 at 03:35.

Keep slapping your forehead. =/
Seems to me like you're just trying to avoid giving a response.
I would like to add, and you were quick to ask me to do some research, well, if you've already done the research, it shouldn't be too much trouble for you to explain where you are coming from....
One more thing......Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video work wonderfully without the need of XBL's infrastructure, so if you are insisting that there is some magic going on behind the scenes with the respective services, which is why the required fee, is a moot point...so yes most other devices don't have it and quite obviously DON'T need it.
In my experience (with a slow connection here), Netflix streams better on the PS3 than it does on the X360.Last edited by sainraja; 07-23-2012 at 03:59.

That may be a main feature that the PS3 is lacking for you. There are many features that I hold above that on XBL that the PS3 doesn't have. Just one example is mandatory demos for every single Xbox Live Arcade game. Party chat is useless to me if I don't have great games in my library. I find the great games by playing the demos of every game before I try it. We also get a demo for every one of the 2500 Indie games found on XBL. That alone makes the $38 a year that I pay a much better value than the free PSN that I use.
But I am not everyone, so I am not speaking for everyone.
They could be done with out the XBL infrastructure if they were released on XBL without any consistency like the PS3 version. The XBL version are customized versions giving the users a consistent experience in the UI. This is because of XBL and the console software. The XBL versions all support Kinect universally, with the same hand and speech recognition, pulling that information from the servers. They also support the BING search across those apps. The XBL versions are also specifically designed so that you can use party chat AND download games/demos/videos in the background WHILE using those features. AGAIN, something that is XBL supported and coded and something the PS3 does not feature.
They perform identical for me, here in the U.S., but the PS3 version gives me 1080p support due to the exclusive agreement with Netflix.Netflix streams better on the PS3 than it does on the X360.

That qualifies as "better" in my book. Anyways those paid services should work 1:1 across both devices anyway- they're paid!

@Solider -- I appreciate the response. Here is where I see it differently.
Microsoft has done a good job mandating a demo for every title released on XBL, something Sony should also do. But I don't see that as a PLUS point for any of the services because I think they should both offer that without any fee. Sony doesn't have that mandate. They definitely should have it. That's a negative for Sony.
That doesn't sell XBL to me.
Having said the above, I was focusing on services provided on both consoles that have their own subscription fee though. Netflix is integrated with the X360 which is good. But you have to realize that Microsoft needed it to be.
They have designed their UI to work that way. They shouldn't charge us a fee to do it. PS3 differs from the Xbox there.....it's not set up that way. Most applications live in their own 'shell' if you will. Not a plus/negative for either.
I've had plenty of issues streaming Netflix on the X360 on my connection (when on the PS3 it works without a hitch.) PS3's Netflix is obviously doing something right because it doesn't pause.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing I will add is that you get all the same demos with the XBL Silver free account as you do with Gold. So they are free. But like PSN plus, Gold just gives you earlier access to some of the demos and betas. Of course if the demo is multiplayer only, you are SOL with a silver account. There is the rare exception that you can play online with a demo using silver, such as the ME3 multiplayer demo.

If you pay for a service your going to expect it to better. I would expect that the server infrastructure is cared for better on paid for service rather than a contracted firm.
