Depending on money situation at the time, i'll probably get it very shortly after release date. When i say "shortly" i mean within a few months after release date.
I remember my 1st PS3 cost me over €700 brand new when i got it, because i got it on higher purchase at the time and that was with no game. That was a couple of months after the PS3 was released.

I missed out on buying either of the current gen consoles on launch so I'd like to get the PS4 on launch but if there's no games that interest me I may just hold off for a year or so or until the first price drop.

That is the predicament.

“Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another castle!” (Super Mario Bros.)
"Why not take a break? You can pause the game by pressing +." (Wii Sports)
“It’s super effective!” (Pokemon series)

I'm content with my PS3 for now. I think I'll wait for at least the second generation model of the PS4.

I'll wait until the price drops. I'm not standing in line overnight. Not that important...

It depends when it releases. My PC will dictate when I buy it and what games are released at launch. Assuming it has some good first party must haves I'll get it on launch day, won't be queuing up though.
I can't see them making another £425 machine so as long as the top version is less than that, and it offers the same value, I'll grab that one.

I can already see a great percentage of you guys lining up on day 1, hoping to be one of the lucky ones who get one before it's sold out...
I'm damn sure Sony and Microsoft will keep their mouths shut 100% until E3. And than BAM - both consoles announced. Both about equally strong, but the PS3 having the edge (this is what I hope - if Sony fails to deliver a console that is at least 100% on par with the next Xbox, it will turn a lot of PS3-only owners into Xbox720 owners). We get all the details on E3 and THEN, trust me, the hype will skyrocket. Everyone of you, including me, will get hyped - if the specs and the (tech-) demos are a big leap forward.
I bought the 60GB PS3 launch model on day1 and it lasted me until March 2012. Quite a while. But then again, my fat PS2 still works, and it's waaaayyy older and was used about equally as much.
I hope that the next gen consoles don't break as easily as the current ones did when they launched. Heck, I'm already thinking about waiting for the PS4 slim, but I would miss a lot of great games. Usually, you don't buy older games and play them when the overall quality of the lineup has increased a lot. What that means: I'm sure that I would've never played Resistance FOM, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword etc. etc. if I hadn't bought my 60gig launch model.
But 2012's and particularily 2013's games will last me quite a while. Can't wait for AC3, Dead Space 3, GOW Ascension, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, MGR Revengeance and much more.Kratos throws a grenade. Grenade kills 50 undead soldiers. Then the grenade explodes.

I voted for the third option (3-4 year after release) but I'll probably get it in 3-4 months
