Is This What PlayStation 4 Looks Like?

PS4 takes one step closer to reality.

The first images of what could be the PlayStation 4 has emerged, as found in the latest issue of Play magazine.

Play commissioned artist Ross Board to design the image based on Sony’s product line and history, technology trends and the likely architecture of the PlayStation 4 itself.

Play believes the PlayStation 4 will have a Blu-Ray drive, in spite of the recent Gaikai deal. The outlet also believes Sony’s next console will feature an internal power source, four USB 3.0 ports, PowerXCell and will continue to use DualShock as its primary input device.
“The next generation will arguably the last that uses physical media,” the magazine writes. “Downloads and streaming means publishers don’t have to worry about second-hand sales, while the continued success of services shows digital is the way forward. Problem? UK’s broadband infrastructure is poor.”
The latest issue of Play is available now from newsagents, iTunes, Imagine Shop andgreatdigitalmags.com.

I'm a bit indifferent to it myself. But it does remind me of the rumored PlayStation Orbis title which, the more I say, the sillier it sounds.

I don't understand how you guys like that design, looks like a DVD-R to me kinda looks like my DirecTV DVDR lol, to each is own though.

I do hope it's something more sophisticated, classy and elegant looking device.

I hate concept designs. they are just meaningless guesswork. Also, it'll be a bad day when they do away with physical media. Look at the prices of current games on the store...its a ripoff. No more competition in the shops or ebay, no more bargains.

That's the day I stop buying new consoles. I'll just play older gen games. Never will I buy into full on digital distribution.

If all digital did happen, i would hope Sony, MS, Nintendo etc. would at least allow third party vendors on their consoles. Like having Steam allowed to sell ps4 games directly on the console. This would cause some major competition and lower prices a bit. So if PSN is trying to rip me off i can at least get a good deal on steam. Unlikely they'd allow steam though

Like I said in another topic, Sony will most likely continue to support physical media for at least 5 years, giving gamers enough time to fully embrace the digital world before turning their Playstation 4(Or whatever they'll call it), into the standard console for all gaming and beyond.

I don't see how people actually think that Consoles will do away with physical media o.O it's ridiculous and here's why. Not every country has excellent internet speeds or internet as a whole. even in 9 years from now if they did away with physical media you would see a HUGE drop in console sales which they wouldn't like. i think some people are getting ahead of themselves by decades.
