When it comes to Final Fantasy, there's another world out there than just world of the story. Even with Kingdom Hearts, Legend of Dragoon and XenoSaga. Just as I said a couple posts ago, with Final Fantasy XII. I wasn't so fond about the story. It took me 4 years JUST to finish the story. Wasn't interested but I wanted to finish it and led me to complete the battle hunts just right before XIII. It was also something that I wasn't used to because I had control of every character before. Now, I feel nostalgic just thinking about it. I actually enjoyed the story in the end and the moment when I felt like giving up to something that had 36 million HP....no, I kicked his ass just like every single threat that Square has pulled off out of there hats. You have read my comments on XIII. I don't like to be coerced into something that's going to waste me more than what I usually play on a Final Fantasy game. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the game. The story was cool, graphics are beautiful and gameplay is fun despite. I will emphasize away, just keep on asking.
Ok, fair enough. Just using XII as an example, I didn't complete it entirely. I didn't get all the major weapons or do every hunt. I did most of them, but I'm sure the harder hunts need the best gear, highest levels. I didn't feel the need to go through that. XII is one of my favorite FF games. Some of the ultimate weapons are such a pain to get that after retrieving Excalibur I thought, "fuck this!"

Meanwhile in FFVII, I fought every Ultimate Weapon, got all the best materia, every single ultimate weapon. To me, I didn't feel like I was wasting hours of my time breeding/racing chocobos or grinding levels to fight the weapons. In XII, I felt like I was wasting my time to reach 30ish extra levels on my characters just to fight the biggest baddest creatures.

The difference between VII and XII strictly in terms of tough optional fights? VII doesn't make you jump through a bunch of hoops to fight them. They are right there on the world map waiting for you. You don't have to do a series of fights beforehand. Just gather levels and equipment.

In XII, some of the zones can be exhausting to go through just to reach the one section that has the mark. I got burnt out near the last ~5 or so. I will say this, going back through some of the earlier zones in the harder sections was a lot of fun. Being in the Lhusu Mines with the giant birds is pretty cool. So I do see your point on trying different things within the game. It may have come with getting older and generally buying way more games, I just don't want to invest as much time into something if the payoff is just extra work without much incentive. Just my take.

XII has a fantastic world, so doing the hunts is fun, simply because it makes you travel around the world, find the monsters in the battlefields and dungeons, find the contacts in the towns, etc.

Hell, that's part of the reason why Blitzball is fun to me. Because it makes you go around Spira checking out players and what-not.

And that brings me to FFXIII. The hunts in that game only take place on Pulse, which has very little variety. If the hunts took place across the entire world, and you had to meet contacts in the towns and cities, it would have been more fun and involving.

There was a rumor about that but It completely fell off the radar after E3. It would make sense because the Vita needs a phoenix down.

After all these years, if S-E were to finally do a FFVII remake, I doubt they would make it for a struggling platform.

With that said, I'm sure everyone in Japan would buy a Vita just to play the game.

Not sure if sarcasm or not but I agree. I honestly believe the hype would sell the game. Resident evil 6 and DNF are great examples of how a game can sell of their name. I think It will be on ps4 and get It free on Vita or something that would help both games. It just comes down to bundling vita with the game and that would be a boost in sales.

I doubt SE will give us a tech demo for PS4 since they're not dedicating themselves to one platform anymore. I'm hoping that both Level 5 and Namco support PS4 from the get go next gen with their JRPGs rather than experimenting with other platforms, the Tales studio has already said they're pretty much sticking with Sony for their home console releases for now.

It's funny that you mention Resident Evil 6 and Duke Nukem Forever since they're both considered terrible. Hype =/= quality.

I also enjoyed doing the hunts in Final Fantasy XII.

Yup, the world is the best part of XII. Travel by a chocobo was pretty cool. For the areas you can use 'em, they were really useful for travel. For Blitzball, I kinda regret playing so much of it since I don't have the airship yet. I feel like I'm missing out on that aspect of recruiting a whole diverse team.

As for me, It took me awhile just to finish it and even the storyline. I had school in the way. I see what you mean. I can also say I had it easy with the guide although I do love completing the game. I used to also just start games without knowing what to expect then started again with more knowledge about what I missed. I do at times feel exhausted and bored to what i'm playing due to maturity which is quite natural. I don't buy too many games anymore since there's a lack of substantial in developement in this generation; at times its not worth the money.

When it came to FFXII, I just disliked the gambit system.

I was doing some browsing on Nova Crystallis and they had an interesting poll set up, asking people if they would like to see a non-human protagonist in a mainline Final Fantasy title. What do you guys think?

That's a hard question to answer, since 'non-human' can mean anything from this...

    to this...

Also, Zidane wasn't human, so this has already happened.

Yeah, I don't blame you. It wasn't the best implemented system, but I liked it. I wanted to have a lot more commands and exceptions to some of the rules. I thought combat in XII ran so smoothly where you could have gambits set up to make your way through easy mobs, but for tough encounters and boss fights, you had to pause combat and think about what commands you were using.

Which was great IMO. That made for smooth pacing, while the boss fights made you change things up.

I'm not a fan of doing a drawn out fight after drawn out fight after drawn out fight, like with FFXIII.

Did this reminded you of FF8 when you heard it for the first time?

I couldve put up with the fights in XIII if the story/characters actually interested me, which is also why I didn't bother with XIII-2, they claimed to have fixed all the problems with it but the story is just a continuation from XIII. I also hate the recent character designs in FF games, I mean sure Cloud/Squall etc. weren't totally original but it doesn't matter since they looked awesome. Maybe Amano should be brought back to have another go like he did FFIX.

FFXII visuals are very crisp, the art design from FFX looks great and the graphical perspective on FFXIII were just stunning.
