via CVG.Speculation over the its highly anticipated project's appearance at Europe's biggest games event has intensified in recent weeks, due in part to an official Gamescom trailer which featured a snippet of footage from Rockstar North's next crime opus.
But a spokesperson for Gamescom has told CVG that the Grand Theft Auto V footage was included "in error".
Franko Fischer, communications manager of Gamescom's organising body Koelnmesse, said "Rockstar Games is not scheduled and has never been scheduled to exhibit at Gamescom 2012".
He said that all GTA V footage has now been removed from the Gamescom trailer.
"We apologise for any confusion this may have caused," he added.
Fischer was nevertheless upbeat about the show's appeal to the games market. He said there would be numerous world premieres and surprise reveals at the show.
"Although GTA 5 won't be at the show, I think we will once again have the most spectacular world premieres set for the events," he added.
About seven months have passed since Rockstar sent shockwaves across the industry with a surprise GTA 5 trailer.
Since then, aside from two GTA V screenshots, there has been little information on the new project.
Gamescom begins August 15th and runs throughout the week. Go here for more info on the show.
I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer for a new trailer. This also makes me think that, once again, the game will be released early next year.

Well iv got to say R* certainly know how to make you wait or just take the right pi** of not given any new vid clips, trailers or screenshots besides those 2 they gave out the other day but it doesnt tell us much does it!! what so darn good about this GTA over any other GTA anyway??

This is no surprise and i am with them on this one. Being the last gta of this gen, i feel a secret and a mystery over this gta is deserved because they need the time to make it epic and a blow out for this gen

what i meant was why is GTA V so ego not to release info about anything!! previous GTA's have never been so much under the curtain this long. i dont see why there's a diffrence between other GTA's, R* could at least give us a new trailer or new info, something has got to give they cant hide it out forever.

this is old news for me, i think gamescon should be sued by all GTA fans. they even had a discription that it might not be there so why put it in and get certain people excited
