Of course there will be boxed games, I've said before I won't be supporting an all digital platform because they can hike up the prices for games as much as they want.
Trophy-licious!

Yeah I think it'll be sooner than that as well, and most people won't quit gaming over it as they claim they will, next gen will probably be the last generation where we have retail boxed games, after this it'll probably all digital, though they'll probably put cases out to retailers with codes or something so the retailers don't die, they still need someone to sell the hardware afterall.

All that is going on is Digital downloads are more appealing since more and more people are getting faster and cheaper internets with large or no monthly caps and that EA are catering to those customers that want to download their games because its more convenient and quicker than going to the shops or getting it delivered.

There's a huge difference between bandwidth usage of music, vs larger files. Also, pricing... don't use the UK aspect proving your theory in the US lol.
$50 bet on that one.
Maybe in the UK, or other countries, but that isn't the case in the US.

Maybe so, but the US won't be far behind. People just don't buy albums the way they used to and selling individual songs on CD just doesn't work anymore. I still think it will happen within the next 5 to 10 years. Either way its a win for them because people will still be buying.

When I said "win" i was just basically saying that the industry will still be selling music. Profits may be different but the industry will still go on. As for CD album sales, they have been dropping for years now and they continue to fall.
During the 52 weeks ended Jan. 2, album sales in the United States fell 12.8% to 326.2 million units from 373.9 million units in the prior year, as the sales of CDs fell by nearly 20% for the fourth year in a row.
http://www.billboard.com/news/u-s-al...0-digital-1004Digital album downloads fared better, posting 13% growth to 86.3 million from the 76.4 million scanned during 2009, accounting for nearly 26.5% of all U.S. album sales last year, according to SoundScan.
It may not happen soon but with Cds steady decline, digital may just equal it in 5 to 10 years. It's not a fast gain but I don't really see people buying more CD albums in the future. Who knows what the future hold though. Something else may come along.Last edited by Sub-stance1; 07-23-2012 at 03:49.

Digital distribution and physical media are going to co-exist for a while.

Yup. I can see the games industry switching to card based media.....like the vita but giving up physical media altogether is going to take some time, as I see it...

much different scenario when it comes to games....cant compare the gaming industry to the music industry. Too many gamers like the physical material.

With the high cost of internet and slow internet speeds in developing countries like South Africa where I live, I doubt the next generation will be digital only
