My mum is a nurse and she had downloaded over a gig of different medial apps onto her phone. I assume you will be doing the same. There are some great ones too with diagrams and dictionaries and all sorts of things. Enjoy the course!

After looking at the macpractice website it looks like the only software for dentistry ion the ipad is the clipboard app which is for checking in patients also its pretty useless without the full DDS macpractice software suite.

No worries, just making sure you know everyone is on your side when it comes to paying a lot of money for school and whether or not those things are needed.

Going through college I had a lot of courses where I "needed" to get X or Y things that were really just a cash grab.

My best advice is see what it's like for a week in the program, and if more students in your section have it, buy it. What some people here seem to forget is that it has practical functions. Apps. This is how education is trying to evolve in practical settings. I'm not sure I agree with apps because it's not even close to the real thing, but I'm also not surprised. Anything to cut costs, while adding to yours. But think of all the other things you'll use your iPad for. Games, reading, various homework. Hell, you can run MS Office on it and I've even seen Final Cut Pro on it.

Textbooks, however, I wouldn't buy. Torrent them. Those are not worth anything. You read a couple of paragraphs in various chapters, while other textbooks you use only 2-3 times throughout the whole semester or year as a reference. I learned that lesson last year. That is, if you can find the specific textbook on torrent sites, if not, then you can rent if there is an option for that and I'm assuming there will be lots of textbooks for the course you're in. How much is tuition per year?

I am paying out of pocket, so it's $117 per hour.

For example, I am taking 7 hours this Fall. So I paid over $800 in tuition.

I guess Tablets can be "seen" as a learning device and Phone are typically seen as a distraction in a classroom setting.
