OnLive is coming to OUYA, can Sony strike back with Gaikai?

The Android-based gaming console OUYA made a big splash on Kickstarter a couple weeks back. Its crowd-funding campaign was record-setting, and the project has already garnered over 5 million dollars in pledged support.

Now, the PlayStation Nation may have reason to be concerned. The Sony acquisition of Gaikai for streaming game content is a potentially huge leap forward for digital entertainment, but OUYA is set to counter with a deal of its own announced earlier today. In an update to the project's Kickstarter page, Gaikai competitor OnLive's general manager Bruce Grove announced that OnLive support will come to OUYA when the console launches next year.

Probably won't see gaikai on that console. Sony will launch gaikai with PS4, say that PS4 is the last console you'll ever need, etc.

I didn't even know about it until a few days ago. Either that or I completely ignored it at first and forgot about it's existence. The hardware looks promising but I won't call it revolutionary.

I've just heard about it now. Honestly can't be that big otherwise I wouldve heard of it, either that or its only getting marketed in the US which it seems for now, to be only releasing there.

I don't really see the point of this thing, because you could, you know, just play all of those type of open source games on a PC, like we've been doing for the past 30 years. Its kind of like a solution without a problem. If you want to play non-licensened games (i.e. non console games), grab a PC or a tablet with a TV out. I could understand if it had especially powerful hardware for low cost, but I don't get it.

Instead of sitting in front of a pc you can do it from your tv like a traditional console and its only 99 bucks

It'll have a subscription though right? But yeah it'll probably be cheaper than getting a gaming PC even in the long run so I do see the point of it.

Why is PC coming up in here? This thing is built on android, its nothing top of the line. Also seeing as every OUYA is also a dev kit the games available for it are going to be mostly throw away titles with a few gems here and there.

Seems like a lot in here feel threatened at the prospect of a $99 console. Personally, I like the idea of another competitor pushing in on Sony's, Microsoft's and Nintendo's territory.
