Her arms weren't waving around all over the place. Genuine attempt to block the ball, nothing deliberate about it and nothing unnatural about the position of her arms. But as I said, the rule is inconsistent which leads to lots of different interpretations from referees. But this one should have not been a penalty and was very harsh on Canada.

You could also question the free kick leading up to the incident, very rare GK's are punished for holding the ball for longer than 6 seconds.
Meh, they lost. No matter how we discuss the penalty.... you don't think it was a right call, I do. If she had her arms there to protect herself before the kick, then I'd agree with you. Since she moved her arms in the way of the ball that she could have turned away from, it's a penalty. The free kick leading up to the incident was also in line with the rule.

There's always lots of discussion when it comes to handball, many different interpretations, I don't even think referees know fully what the correct rule on handball is.

I'm sure there are some refs, somewhere, that you're right about. Luckily known of them were on the field during the USA v Canada game.

The rules for handball are pretty clear except in cases where the referee has a bad angle and can't judge intent/movement then it's up for grabs.

The officiating was horrible all game either way some bad calls against USA and a lot against Canada. Unlike everywhere else.. people don't seem to want to give any credit to Canada or admit to the severe harshness of the penalty call to Canada so that's my final comment on the matter.

Exciting and controversial Women's Sprint final, congrats to Anna Meares on getting gold, damn she has a nice ass.

Pretty tense beach volleyball semi-final between the US & China going on at the moment...

Damn shame Victoria didn't win would have liked to see her retire on a gold winning ride in her last ever competative race.
Its probably going to be Chris Hoy's last Olympics too but he isnt retiring just yet, he thinks he will be too old to compete in 2016.

Anyone got any French friends? I think its time to send them a good old fashioned snail mail.

Some thrilling beach volleyball games last night, it will now be US v US in the gold medal match, so I guess guaranteed gold & silver.

Can't wait for the Womens 200m final!!

Wow, what a final for the Womens 200m. Thought it would have been a lot closer between the US & Jamaica, glad Felix won the gold.

Canada wins the bronze in womens soccer... France had been killing it all game, but couldn't finish their 20+ shots on goal. In the 2nd min of stoppage time, Canada seemingly gets a shot on goal, and wins. I only saw two shots on goal in the second half for Canada. Great win.

That first US goal was amazing. When Morgan got that low I didn't think she could do anything with it.
